Masters of Illusion - Zen Archer

Postby Jonathan Pendragon » June 21st, 2017, 8:57 pm

Masters of Illusion returns to the CW next week: Friday June 30th - 8 and 8:30 PM. I don't know when I perform first, but I am told it will be in the first two weeks and it will be Zen Archer, an archery card trick that involves my beloved Bear Super-Grizzly recurve bow. Martial Arts Mentalism!

I know that I am far from alone in being a fan and supporting your fabulous work, Jonathan. I would wish you "Good Luck" in the upcoming performances, but that sounds kind of trite, so, Good Skill!

I don't know what that means. My intention was to convey some positive thoughts and well wishes, but I guess like the song, Masquerade, says, the words got in the way...

On the contrary, you were absolutely correct. What I wrote was trite as I was trying to hype a TV show I am on. I am very proud of the archery effect as it takes real skill with a bow to make it work. The martial arts mentalism line was something of inside joke, Ricky Jay once designed a pirate mentalism act that he never performed (that idea is still funny). Sometimes I asked to make comments about things I am working on, on social media, I am never comfortable about doing it.

My next Panmagium is out in the next issue of Genii, after that I will write an article on Zen Archer that will deal with stage safety. This will include the use of archaic weapons (swords, staffs, knives and, of course, bows) that are often used in Grand Illusion. These can be exciting but like the use of fire very dangerous when used improperly without the basic safety understanding.

I was thinking me with a bow and arrow on stage, would end up being a whole different effect. With not one card being hit.
