Had one myself just last week - #14 molar. Pressure sensitivity lasted three days, but now it's all good and better than ever. Hang in there!

Re: I Just Had a Root Canal: How's YOUR Day Going?
Two weeks ago, while in the Philippines, I had a molar removed. At the same time I had my teeth cleaned and 2 cavities filled. The fun started while the dentist was removing my molar and it broke (crown came off). He had to drill away part of my jaw bone get at the roots. Five hours later and a second round of Novocaine they finally got it done.
Though it took a long time it only cost me $200 for everything. Gotta love the Philippines.

Things like a root canal:
1. Any 5-hand poker deal.
2. Any poker deal.
3. Multi-phase coins across routine.
4. Multi-phase coins across routine with poker deal kicker.
5. Any demonstration of a second deal.

Maybe this would be a good time to ask the dentist if he has any dental dam to spare - latex rubber only, of course.
The last root canal I had was by a by a highly skilled illustrious endodontist in San Francisco, and this lowly, not so illustrious magician talked him into a barter deal - the root canal in exchange for entertainment at the annual office Christmas party. And I later did the dental dam trick for him at the party with dental dam I asked him for on the day of the procedure. (True story).

This specialist (all he does is root canals) uses blue dental dam. You can't use it for the trick because it leaves a bluish shadow over the coin.

Since Steve Martin is a magician, this seems somehow darkly appropriate:

The best I've ever come across for making it look like the coin is realistically sitting on top was the kind of tannish color I originally got when I first bought the trick from Paul Diamond in Fort Liquordale once upon a long time ago. Hard to find now - seems like the green, blue and grey (grey being probably the best of those three) are the most prevalent. Gotta be latex rubber in any event; the synthetic Nitrile ain't worth a ____.
Erdnasephile, you really might want to consider changing dentists, LOL.

Re: I Just Had a Root Canal: How's YOUR Day Going?
Had this done a year and a half ago. My rear upper right molar cracked and eventually broke in half. I was not aware of the crack but realized something went wrong when half the molar vanished while eating popcorn. Several bad decisions led to my eventual root canal:
1. I had tried to crack open a pistachio nut with my rear molars. Your teeth are NOT nutcrackers. Always use a tool to crack open nuts. This must have led to the hairline crack in the molar.
2. I waited too long to see a dentist when the molar disintegrated. I didn't have dental insurance at that time and had to wait 6 months to enroll at my job.
In addition to being a long drawn out painful procedure, root canals are very expensive. Mine cost $1,300 but luckily my dental insurance covered most of it. After the root canal I had a realistic ceramic crown installed over what was left of that molar. I had to pay $500 out of pocket for that crown. I miss that original molar, it had a nice sharp edge on one of the corners.
I recall the dental dam used in my procedure was the grey type.

The Dalai Lama always refuses novocaine when he goes to the dentist.
He prefers to transcend dental medication.
(Hope you're feeling better, Richard ... that bad joke notwithstanding.)

Origami. It's on paper view.
It works better orally than when you read it.
(actually, I have seen a pretty good documentary on origami)
