Some of the predictable snarkiness in the review, but this stands out: "The show works. Beautifully. Tenderly. Astonishingly."

The show is also recommended as a NY Times Critics Pick ... congrats, Derek!

Huffington Post had some interesting observations:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the ... 372700d70f

"If he takes a cue from his most memorable moments, DelGaudio won’t improve by becoming more magisterial but more human, working with the audience to create special moments rather than working to wow them and being frustrated when they don’t respond ...Sometimes the best magic isn’t applauded at all. "

High praise below from Theatre Mania

http://www.theatermania.com/off-broadwa ... 80699.html

"Our charming host has ample opportunity to be a commanding narrative storyteller, with extraordinary illusions woven throughout in the manner of a musical score. They're not merely pauses for entertainment value but engine-driving, load-bearing moments that elevate magic from a diversion to a fine art. For perhaps the first time, magic is raising the question why instead of how — and why is leading to far more interesting answers. "

And then this article

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/in- ... 8c18beed66

"DelGaudio will surely go on to do some great tricks and performances in the course of the rest of his career amazing audience far and wide. He’ll surely take note of what really worked well in this 75-minute show and use it in the future. To get there, though, he’ll have to take a hard look inside at what happened when he tried to elevate and heighten the drama, yet wound up with something that leaves you longing to see his next effort instead."

All the critics seem to agree that Derek has as a bright future ahead - and changing magic for the better. Exciting times indeed.
