345: Marcie Hume Documents Magicians - Life in the Impossible

Postby Scott Wells » February 23rd, 2017, 11:33 am

SPOILER ALERT: I recommend that you first watch the film before hearing this podcast. It is available on a wide array of digital platforms and was released on Netflix last week (Feb. 13th) so you should be able to find it most anywhere. For more information, visit: http://magiciansmovie.com

In this week's podcast, Director/Producer Marcie Hume talks about the four year long venture in following and filming four magicians on their respective paths to success as professional magicians. This documentary follows Jon Armstrong, Brian Gillis, David Minkin and Jan Rouven as they live their lives not just as magicians preparing for and performing shows, but also in their personal, behind-the-scenes lives filled with joys and heartache and grittiness of real life and the results of decisions, good or bad. The film kept true to the filmmakers goal of showing the bumpy ride that artists follow on their road to achieving their dreams and success, however they and the world defines it. I am certain that this was eye-opening to some outside our community while others felt like this is just a "slice of the pie" that they expected to see "behind the curtain", if you will allow me to mix metaphors.

Marcie begins our conversation talking about her credentials as a mentalist and her interest in magic. I found her back story and her pursuit of learning her craft to be fascinating. I haven't come across many female magicians but rarer still are female mentalists. So I pursued a line of questioning that interested me and I hope it will you, too. Marcie shared a lot on this podcast about herself and her film and it is not to be missed.

You can view a trailer of the film plus an interview with Marcie and her co-director/producer Christoph Baaden, see some photos, read the blog, listen to the podcast online, and download the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/sco ... arcie-hume Of course you can subscribe and listen through iTunes, Feedpress, Stitcher, Tunein and a variety of other pod catchers.
