Man plummets 25ft @ Blackpool convention

"Heart-stopping moment a ‘drunken’ magician survives plummeting 25ft onto a tile floor while ‘monkey-barring’ across ceiling rafters at a convention"

Is there something in the water in Blackpool ?

The guy was some sort of dumb. He should be arrested because he could easily have fallen on an innocent person and killed them.

Dumb doesn't even come close !

Some reports say he was a partner of an attendee - and not a magician himself. Don't know if this is accurate ?

What were the highlights of Blackpool 2017 ? Any mention of Mr Lever's banishment ?

There are easier methods for, "Card on the Ceiling."

The lack of Lever was a recurring theme throughout the weekend. Almost exclusively in a positive way.

Are we sure he wasn't attempting the legendary Indian Rope Trick?

He was drunk. His girlfriend, who is the magician, was in the bathroom when he climbed the ceiling. He's in the hospital at the moment.

Hi Alan, I assume you don't live near the Winter Garden. I've been to an Italian restaurant about 20 minutes away and saw many nice homes in that direction.

I lived in Blackpool for well over 10 years. It was absolutely wonderful! I learned all my wicked ways there. I have always called it the University of Evil!
I have lived in many countries and cities all over the world. I have also visited many, many cities. In fact too many to name. Blackpool was the greatest of them all. I loved the place better than I have ever loved anywhere else in the world. It has a special place in my heart.

Vegas? No comparison. One of the most boring places I have ever been in my life. All I could see there was a plastic society with overpriced magic shops, gambling galore and a few magic shows. Vastly over rated. At least Blackpool has plenty of variety and lots and lots of awful people. And far more street wise than Vegas will ever be.

It is a wonderful place full of the dregs of humanity. I have often thought that if God wanted to do a little bit of that Sodom and Gomorrah stuff again he would pick Blackpool.

Here is what I am talking about. Note the terribly high class people who would be welcome in the best homes!

You really made me laugh, regarding Vegas, i suppose it depends what you are going there for. I think it is a wonderful place, i love to play poker and love there buffets.

I worked in a bar in Blackpool as a chef for a few years and i saw everything go down there let me tell you... as i am sure you must know! But i did have fun times there...

If you like Poker I can see how you would like Vegas. Alas I used to like Poker too and it was my great undoing. I was a bit of a gambler in my youth and alas I was not a good one. Sometimes I would indeed win but most of the time I would lose. I used to play in London and haunt the casinos there. Oddly enough everyone seemed to know David Berglas in the casinos and they told me he was a big gambler. They used to tell me he did the coin in bottle trick to amuse people there. This was around 50 years or so ago though. Anyway I was cured of my gambling instantly when I went into a casino in Cardiff and the Welsh cured me of it. I lost money so fast in that casino that I gave it up immediately. If they had taken it off me more slowly I would probably be still gambling today.

But I still say Vegas doesn't compare to grubby old Blackpool and all the low class people that visit and inhabit the awful place. I LOVED Blackpool and moving there from London was one of the better decisions I ever made in my life. I would go back tomorrow but people keep warning me that it isn't what it used to be. I strongly suspect it is. All the recent videos I have seen of the dreadful place seem to show no difference whatsoever.

When I first heard FISM was being held there I laughed my head off at the time. I knew it would be a disaster! I couldn't imagine the reaction of all those high class Europeans when they arrived in low class Blackpool. And yet I loved the place...................

Good old Blackpool, my family's roots.
Been awhile since I've been there. Can't wait to go back.

What delighted me the most about Blackpool was the low intelligence of the people who lived there and the even lower intelligence of the visitors. It made it so much easier to deprive them of their money. Unless of course the visitors came in from Yorkshire. Nobody in Blackpool could ever get any money out of them. They came into the town with short arms and long pockets.

I can relate. I always felt the same about the Glaswegians- hardworking, delightfully simple.

Since this thread was opened the word "plummeting" has been like an unscratched itch at the back of my mind. It reminds me of a quote from a colleague of mine years ago who noted that whenever a bus went off road it always "plunged". People plummet, but buses plunge.

In actual fact Glaswegians were the most favoured class of holidaymakers that used to descend on Blackpool. They spent money like water and were the best punters of them all. The Glaswegians often saved the season for some vendors. Every trader in Blackpool looked forward to the "Glasgow Fortnight" as this was the best two weeks of the season when Glaswegians in their droves descended on Blackpool.

Oddly enough I never saw a single Canadian visit Blackpool. Just as well, since I think the town would have been too fast for them. I have always said Canadians walk slow, talk slow and even think slow. Americans just shoot people. Very odd place-North America.

Slow and steady wins the race.
I love Americans.
The Scots enjoy Blackpool, always have- as long as they didn't wander too far along the beach and end up in Clevely's...
