Close-up video Tribute to Derek Dingle and Others

I recently posted my 2016 Close-up Tribute to Derek Dingle and Others.

Derek was my mentor, inspiration and all around cool guy. I had the unique opportunity to be under his tutelage during his prime years--when he was truly the king of cards.

I don't believe his handling of Card on Forehead or Card Warp has ever been published. Additionally, some of Dingle's nuances in Silver Quick and Impromptu Universal Card have never, to the best of my knowledge, been published prior.

All the routines utilize my personal handlings and personalizations of classic sleights.

I welcome your comments and thoughts.

PS: Here is a link to my riffle shuffle work from ~7 years ago. The words are bogus, but the work is real. I don't recall the details of the work, other than it was heavily influenced by Bob King's Breather Crimp work and a modified Stevens Control

Derek had no original work on Card Warp--it belongs to Ricky Jay and so Derek did not want it published. Neither would Ricky Jay. You should take it down.

Richard, did you actually view the piece prior to your post? Yes or No? It is so highly derivative and personalized from anything that I remember of Dingle's, other than doing phase 2 with one hand only. The first part is standard issue. The ending was conceived from, if anywhere, Eugene Burger. If this routine is Ricky Jay's, first of all I'd be shocked. And secondly, yes, I would edit out that piece.

Is that your only comment? I'm publishing a testimonial and tribute to Derek to help keep his memory and spirit alive. Damn, no wonder being on the outside provides a better perspective.

No, I didn't watch it. But I saw Derek do Card Warp many times, and he told me without question that it incorporated ideas of Ricky Jay's and could not be published in his book for that reason. He added that aside from the parts added by Ricky, he (Derek) had added nothing original.

The Card on Forehead handling was published as The Card For Head Trick in The New York Magic Symposium Close-Up Collection One (by Mr. Kaufman). When I showed Simon Lovell my presentation (from by booklet Tubthumping) and variation on this he informed me that it was not the way Dingle actually did the card on forehead, and then showed me the method I associate with Jim Cellini.

I tracked the idea of doing a shift as you apparently show the bottom card of the top half to Paul Curry. You can find his idea in Worlds Beyond.

Loved seeing all that Dingle stuff again. His was my first serious book on card magic.
