303: What's App with Carl Andrews

Postby Scott Wells » July 17th, 2016, 1:05 pm

After a few days in San Antonio and posting daily updates from the I.B.M. convention, we are back again with our regularly scheduled podcasts. This week we feature a chat with Carl Andrews, a creative and resourceful restaurant magician and the idea man behind many popular magic apps including "ShowCues", the must-have music app for any magician who wants to kick up his earning potential by at least 10%.

Carl was also the mind behind "Illusions" restaurant in Carmel, Indiana, a magic-themed eatery that featured names that have become synonymous with quality magic: Chris Kenner, Michael Close, Homer Luwag and more. In this podcast, Carl talks a bit about that place from long ago and his migration to Maui where for eight years he held forth as one of the premier magicians in Hawaii at upscale restaurants. He also worked cruise ships which gave him time to develop several magic app for the iPhone and iPad. Many of these have found commercial success through the iTunes store, but none like ShowCues which continues to be a best seller.

You can watch some videos, see some photos, read the blog, enter the contest, listen to the podcast online and download the MP3 file at: http://themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwel ... rl-andrews Of course you can download, listen and subscribe through multiple other platforms such as iTunes, Tunein, Stitcher, Feedpress and others.

Also, if you happened to have missed any of the daily updates from the I.B.M. convention, they are all available at http://TheMagicWordPodcast.com And speaking of the I.B.M. convention, in retrospect, I have to say that I enjoyed seeing, talking and being with old friends and making new ones, too. And this year several new ideas were tried and in my opinion, some failed or at least need some tweaking. Overall, on a scale of 1-10, I would give this one something between a 3 and a 4, and I take responsibility for it as a co-chairman of the event. The buck stops with Mike Stratman and me. We hope you enjoyed it, but if you didn't then we will take the blame.

Back to the podcast news, I want to congratulate Richard Nunziato and Dale Rabon who won the copies of "Ten Amazing Effects for Ten ESP Cards" by Homer Arcana that was donated by Alain Nu. This week's contest is for a chance to win one of four DVDs by Carl Andrews. Domestic shipping of these prizes comes from the generous donations by The Friends of The Magic Word. Please consider making a donation if you have the ability to financially support the podcast.

And next week's guest on The Magic Word will be Gay Blackstone who sat down with me during the I.B.M. convention to chat about her life and the "Masters of Illusion" television and theater shows. Be sure to Like us on Facebook to be notified when we have Live Streaming video chats as we record our podcast so you can ask the guests your questions in real time! http://facebook.com/themagicwordpodcast
