I was curious if a magician would appear in a Super Bowl ad, since they often do.
RocketMortgage obliged, with part of the commercial showing a cheesy magician who was so bad, the entire audience (and assistants) started applying for mortgages during the act. Same old stereotype. Not clever, nor funny.
It was almost as bad as the game...

Bad ad. Forgot what they were trying to sell me at ~0.10. You wanna do a send-up of cheesy magicians, fine, do that. All of a sudden they're telling me about "wooden leg makers" so wait, now it's pirates? but no, it's something to do with computers ...
Last SB worth watching was in 1986.

Seemed to me that there was another one where one actor told another, "You look like an out of work magician." The response was, "It's a hobby."
Bad year for commercials. The best one was the one with Dame Helen Mirren trash talking drunk drivers. The (Christopher) Walken Closet came in second and it was disappointing. Creativity is not just in decline in magic. Hollywood needs to turn its critical eye inward.

I missed that "out of work magician" thing. Sounds like I didn't miss much.
Agreed. It was a poor year for ads. However, I actually didn't care for the Mirren ad (or any of the other preachy ads). It's not that I don't think that drunk drivers are reprehensible. I just feel that companies that sell stuff that can be used to promote bad behavior really don't care all that much how you use it, as long as they aren't held liable.
Sort of like those commercials: "Come spend money you can't afford at our Casino! If you have a gambling problem, dial 1-800-DISINGENUOUS"
