A duel between JP and the Barbarian (Tom Stone)
Tom is amazingly creative. When I did my Penguin lecture, Tom watched, and texted in a question, would all of my effects include black art? I had just done a series of related effects that used the principle and so I joked that I was working on a "Black Art Roll Over Aces." Tom spent the rest of my lecture trying to figure out a black art Roll Over Aces, given more time he would have succeeded.
When Tom's new wonder-thing (Factory Blanks) hit the magic news, everyone admitted that it was brilliant, but there wasn't an established routine yet. So, I have challenged Tom, and he has accepted, to a duel: Each of us has to come up with a routine using his new method-product Factory. Our entries will be judged by (at the moment it's unclear, but names like Steinmeyer, Kaufman and Maven have been mentioned) the Genii writing illuminati. The loser must print the winner's trick in their column and lavish (or roast) the winner with praise.
No kibitzing, this is mano a mano. I will be on Tour with Masters of Illusion and will be writing about life on the road and my efforts to humiliate Tom.

This sounds like a lot of fun! Can't wait! Since, in a traditional duel, each participant has a "second," will the participants in this duel have factory seconds?

Jonathan have obviously become addicted to pain. I tried to talk him out of it, and described all the benefits of cowardice, but he seems hellbent on getting the Darwin Award here. So I seem to have no other choice than to let him taste the Swedish steel.

Great Swedish Steel vs American Adamantium. I ordered the deck a last week, when it arrives we start creating in two different directions, in a month we turn and fire ( present our routines). Jim, Richard and Max will judge who stands and who falls.

The suggestion has been made, and I agree, if it is to be a proper duel, we need Seconds (all Factory Second jokes anticipated). I choose Steve Valentine.

Too late, Jonathan, I already cracked a factory second joke when I brought up the issue of seconds in my post of 1/27/16 on this thread.
The only remaining question now is: Wiil this be a real duel when you turn and fire, or will you be using blanks?

Do you have a formal agreement with Steve to act on your behalf in the duel?
Do you have . . . .
a second deal?

I am on tour with Masters of Illusion Live, with a bunch of illusionist! These guys are absolutely no help when it comes to card tricks, so I will have figure it out all myself.

I have submitted my card trick to the seconds. I await their decision and Tom's card trick, not necessarily in that order. He could concede the contest and save himself a hefty amount of humiliation.

I lived through my teens, so I'm immune to humiliation. Nothing will be conceded.

Both routines have been submitted. I am going to try and get mine on video soon. How we relate the info has yet to be decided.

And if you get the print edition of Genii, you'll find a sample Factory Blank card in it stuck to page 41 courtesy of Card-Shark.
If you look at my "More Genii Speaks" video in the digital edition, I show the card and demonstrate how deceptive it is.
