So, what did you get?

Postby erdnasephile » December 26th, 2015, 11:57 am

Just curious what magic-related stuff ya'll received as gifts for this year's holidays?

(I got a set of nickel-plated Paul Fox VS cups from RNT2; however, that was--to quote Alvin--from me, to me.)

I decided that I had been a really good little boy in 2015, so I picked up a set of Brett Sherwood cups (nickel plate/straight set) and two sets of the Sherwood balls, in Royal Blue. And, to go with, I ordered a custom wand from Alivans, ebony with purple heart tips. I am now in cup and ball Heaven. I will be very suspicious of anyone on here requesting my physical address...

No magic. Just a fleece sweater. I cannot afford to GIVE gifts. I certainly do not expect them!

I got a vintage mint condition Hamilton Duck. Michael Caine looked so cool on the cover of Genii, I had to get mine: Never too old to magism.

I also got a James Riser chop cup. Riser's chop cups are among the best ever made. I had fun polishing it to a spit shine.

I received from my lovely wife “Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits” by photographer Matthew Rolston. I highly recommend all of you check out this extraordinary book of photography.

From my daughter, I received “The Witch of Lime Street: Séance, Seduction, and Houdini in the Spirit World” David Jaher.

Alas it will be a while before I get to these as I am currently reading “Salon De Magie” by Ken Klosterman and Gabe Fajuri. Next up is "Tenyoism", so as always more to read, than time to read.

A nice Christmas: Books This Old Man (Roger Angell), The 40s (New Yorker pieces), The Unauthorized Story of Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion (Jeff Baham), Volumes 1 and 2 of the graphic novel of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, Tenyoism, and (total surprise) the Vernon poster and deck of cards from Dan and Dave. Throw in the recent Martin Gardner's Impromptu, and that's a lot of reading!

Confident Deceptions book by Jason Ladanye. Surprised to get that, as I am told (quite frequently) that I have way too many books on magic.

I read this as 'a bunch of PAPER clips, and got sad for you. Porper clips are much better than office supplies!

I got myself a 3-year re-subscription to Genii with the Berglas book. And throughout the year I got myself several books... Jawdroppers, The new John Bannon book, The new Aronson book, Jason Ladanye's book, John Carey's books, Denis Behr's books... among other things in Spanish... full of material to work on for several years.

Magic-wise, I received the handsome book that accompanied the traveling "Houdini: Art and Magic" exhibit from a few years ago. (And I ordered the Ricky Jay Buchinger book for myself.)

Non-magic-wise, my wife is making me a Zygon costume for a Doctor Who party we'll be attending on New Year's day. Woot!

My granddaughter received a Fantasma magic set from her uncle, and The Big Book for Little Hands together with Marvin's iMagic kit from me. Naturally, I had to get another Marvin's iMagic for myself so I can teach the little one. :D She just received her first smart phone so I thought the iMagic set would be cool.

Josh Jay's Triad Coins, which is proving to be lots of fun to experiment with...
