A nice interview with Teller

Postby P.T.Widdle » July 27th, 2015, 3:10 pm

I like the idea behind their trick, "Honor System," and think it's something that only Penn & Teller could pull off.

A fine read. And I think only they can do it because Teller (let's face it, it's mostly Teller and I'd hope that Penn agrees) knows right where that fine line exists.

When I saw him do the Floating Ball in their show a couple years ago, and Penn said at the outset that it is done with a thread, I winced. But then I watched the most incredible floating ball routine I have ever seen. No WAY can someone believe it's done with a single piece of thread. It is, of course, but it just looks so damned impossible for that to be true. And even if one does believe it, then their appreciation is heightened even more. I like to think that David Abbott would be thrilled.

Don't forget, Dustin, that Penn comes back at the end of Floating Ball and "cuts" the thread (a beautiful touch), thereby cementing it as a P&T piece, so to speak.

With "Honor System" the five percent figure intrigues me. I bet most most people would like to think of themselves as being in the five percent beforehand.

He didn't do that in the show I saw at the Rio. I saw it on the tube and figured it was a new bit.

He cuts the thread on Broadway.

As long as he doesn't cut the cheese.

Here's a lovely article from a number of years ago on the Red Ball that I ran across today:

I probably just overlooked it, but I can't seem to find who the author of the piece was.
