Better pay than the average magician, but the long term career arc is not as attractive

Re: New York man says fortuneteller scammed him out $700K
"The man- who has not been identified in court documents -told police he had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars before finding out in February 2014 that Michelle had died. But, the man wrote, Delmaro said she could be reincarnated."
Hmmm...but even if she was, (the man who is 32) would have to wait 18 years before they could legally be together without consent.
Very strange story, but pretty entertaining to read.

No, it was all thought through
There are more details in the NYT write-up.

“Delmaro then told me she was going to reincarnate Michelle,” the man wrote. The new Michelle “wouldn’t be exactly” like the old one, but her spirit would be placed into the body of a 31-year-old woman.

The mark sounds like he was a stalker as well.
Good thing Michelle repelled his advances (although she wound up dead).
Matt, in regards to your rhetorical question: some of the comments on the NYT site make it pretty clear there are plenty more potential victims waiting to be fleeced.

This is so sad. I wish he had come to me. It would have cost him a mere $200 at the most and he would have been able to get on with his life in a more productive fashion. I only have to see people once. I have helped thousands of people with issues such as this. It is very familiar territory to me.
These psychic predators are evil bastards and they give the more sincere and ethical practitioners a bad name. They abound everywhere and it is the neon lights in store fronts that give them away. There is terminology also that they use which should make people automatically smell a rat such as "99% accurate" "reunites lost loves" and "removes evil spirits" or "removes curses".
A psychic reading can be very helpful but you have to find the right reader and that can be a difficult thing to do. And even a good reading is not a panacea. In the end you have to take charge of your own life.
