I'm sure 99.9% of the Genii Forum membership will never have the opportunity to sample the delights offered by the Magic Castle, not least the Ranbow Trout Almondine with Green Beans and Fingerling Potatoes...

The food was one of the most pleasant surprises of my last couple of visits there. Before I went, I was told to stay with the red meat. However, I went surf, while my companions went turf. It was all really good, and I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality (especially with the member discount).

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (June 2015)
There have been periods in the past when the food at The Castle has been suspect. We are not in one of those periods (and haven't been for a while). Executive Chef Jason Sperber is doing a terrific job. There is now a burger on the bar menu. I had one a couple of weeks ago and it is excellent--and at $12 a great value (and now I'm hungry!).
AJM, I'm not sure what you are confused by (based on your emoticon). If it is these updates, don't read them. If it is fingerling potatoes, Google them. They are not some weird California invention like our "mixed greens" (read: weeds) salad.
I started doing these posts back when--or so it seemed to me--the only stuff being posted here about The Magic Castle and the Academy of Magical Arts was political strife. I wanted people to know that there was still "good stuff" going on at the old clubhouse.
But I'm also a bit of an idealist: I think anyone who is seriously interested in magic should be a member of the Academy, no matter where they live. I have suggested multiple ways for the Academy to broaden their membership. They have adjusted the area for Nonresident members (a financial godsend for me) and now have a special membership for international members. But at the very least, I hope these posts get folks outside of Southern California to visit The Magic Castle. There are so many ways that a nonmember can get in. And remember, if you are a Genii subscriber, that's your ticket in!

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (June 2015)
"A fingerling potato is a small, stubby, finger-shaped type of potato which may be any heritage potato cultivars. Fingerlings are varieties that naturally grow small and narrow. They are fully mature when harvested and are not to be confused with new potatoes. Popular fingerling potatoes include the yellow-skinned Russian Banana, the orange-skinned French, and the Purple Peruvian."
I'm always happy to learn something new.
