I feel this loss. I only had brief conversations with him. I am a Lutheran minister, although I hoped for more. My impressions has been that in these latter years his order or superiors were not as tolerant of his magic interests and authority.
I hope his last years were better than that. God bless...Cyp. Peace...Fred (Reisz)

The last time I saw him, he told me he was still working on his book of magic. Too bad he most likely never finished it. Really nice guy. RIP Cyp.

I hope his last years were better than that.

For what it's worth, I have been in contact with his order's communications department (I need a photograph for another project), and the person who helped me had this to say:

"Cyp always spoke with great love about being a magician."

And their published obituary includes this line: "Fr. Cyprian was an active member of the Society of American Magicians, the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Magic Circle of London."

I love Father Cyprian's card work, and wondered what his superiors thought of his passion for magic. When somebody not far past middle-age passes away, I always think they could have had at least ten more years.

Cyp straddled several "worlds" and managed to bridge most of them. He was a priestly gift-giver of the Work and its intrinsic playfulness. His presence will be missed, particularly by those of us who were privileged to have spent lots of time with him. It's now our obligation to celebrate his legacy….which added together, is lots to celebrate and apply. R.I.P., Cyp.

Presenting the SAM Gold Medal of Excellence to Father Cyprian. The honor was given in recognition of the renaming of the SAM Stage Contest to, "The Fr. Cyprian Murray Stage Contest of Magic."

FR. CYPRIAN – CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF A CHERISHED FRIEND
A few years’ back, the Society of American Magician’s had a slogan, “You have a friend in the SAM.” I cannot think of a person to whom that motto better fitted than Father Cyprian. He epitomized a welcoming feeling to all who joined our Society. In fact, he gave of his time and support to anyone who had a real and honest interest in the art of magic. It did not matter what discipline in the art. It could be sleight of hand magic, stage magic, mental magic, collecting magic equipment/paraphernalia or the deep history of the art. Father Cyp was knowledgeable in all of those fields and would help those with a genuine determination to learn. Many of us benefitted because of Fr. Cyp’s generosity.
Those of us who he touched not only became better magicians, but more importantly we became better persons. This is something that we will forever be grateful for. Thank you Cyp.
