Mr. Maven, is there a particular Billy Cunningham book you'd recommend starting with or should they be read in order? (I have an upcoming trip and I'm looking for something to read on the plane). Thanks!

e, I cannot speak for Mr. Maven, 'natch, but to my knowledge there are currently only two books in the Billy Cunningham series, Take Down, and Bad Action. Both are fun reads and need not be read in order, but doing so makes sense while there are so few.

I also recommend The King Tides, in which a new character, Jon Lancaster, is introduced. Lancaster is an odd ball, and the story is a bit goofy, but in the South Florida sort of goofy you get with Carl Hiaasen, et al. There's a second book in the Lancaster series that I haven't yet had the chance to read, but it's on my list.

Not sure what it means for Mr. Swain's pocketbook, but his titles are dirt cheap on Amazon if you are a Kindle user.

Pickett sounds good. I'm currently rereading Merlini and catching up on a few I missed.
