Nice to have plaudits when one is around to get them.
A couple of points about the latter end of the article. Genii (as far as I know) was always owned by the Larsen family until they sold it and I think he is confusing Genii with the Linking Ring magazine when he says:

"almost a club magazine, with only one or two items of interest to me per issue and large sections devoted to the likes of photos of Ring 234 in Plano, Texas."

Re: Embarrassing the Chief Genii
Hi, thanks for the comments and corrections, Quentin! Sorry for the factual error about the ownership of Genii. I've corrected the post.
As to the impression that it had too much club news, I am just now looking back at an issue from 1966. There's quite a bit of IBM, SAM, Magic Castle news which I guess made my 13-year-old self impatient. Here's an item, for example: "Dick Zimmerman and the members of the Senor Maldo Assembly S.A.M. can be proud of the public show they presented at the San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara..."
Anyway, I had recently taken advantage of RK's cut rate book offer and received the Collected Almanac which I had always wanted. I was impressed as always by RK's work. I thought that since Genii is always celebrating others, RK deserved some ink as well.

Re: Embarrassing the Chief Genii
Has there been a piece in Genii (or elsewhere) exploring the history of the major editors and/or publishers of magic?
