Much too early to start scalping "Houdini--the Key"

Postby houdinisghost » November 15th, 2014, 1:39 pm

I'm watching a couple of auctions. It appears that my book "Houdini--the Key" is being sold as "out of print" and "unavailable." and based on that, a couple of copies have sold for $300.00+.
The book is still available, brand new, for it's original price: 195.00. You can find it at www.houdinisghost.com

Having followed "muggle" booksellers for a few years, I am now no longer surprised when I see high prices for some magic books. I don't think they have a clue as to the real value of magic books. I suppose if one seller puts a high price on something, that's all the research they need to see to convince them that the high price is appropriate. I am sure they don't research the used magic sellers.

On the other hand, it is sometimes possible to find some nice bargains on scarce magic titles - though this happens far less than the original situation.

It's already too late for the Houdini Unlocked set of books. I've seen this priced on eBay and Abe books for at least $1,200.00. The scalpers have been having a field day with this set for many years. A reprint would have thrown those pirates into the frigid waters of Boston Harbor along with the crates of tea.

Just so we're all on the same page, the book sold for less than $150 delivered.

I'm sorry the guy took a loss. It was relatively recently obtained from me. This is the first of the four copies I know to have changed hands to have lost money, but I've only sold 20 of the final 113, so, it's not a rare book at this point.
If I knew what number the book was I'd know who was forced to sell. I'd have paid 195 if he'd thrown in shipping and guaranteed mint condition.
Odd that he would dump it off like that.

If the buyer of that copy of the book would like it signed to him or her personally, if they'll pay to send it to me, priority and insured, I would personalize the book and send it back the same way on my nickel.
