Tommy Wonder performance 1987

Postby Tom Stone » September 16th, 2014, 6:46 am

Tommy Wonder's brother Frank just posted a video clip from 1987 of Tommy performing at a medieval themed restaurant in Holland.
Note that Tommy is completely surrounded, with people above him as well. Well worth studying the load management and loading techniques - there are knowledge to be found here that isn't in his books.

Collectors might want to know that the large cups used in the video can be obtained.

Frank is putting up more of Tommy's props on eBay.
Quite interesting to follow the bids, especially on those items that only makes sense for those who knows the routines. Like... who would bid on a small case of sewing tools?

Well, probably those who have seen those props in performance! :-)

I wish I had enough money to bid on Tommy's cups.

Has anyone informed Bill Palmer (of the Cups and Balls Museum) about this auction?

Ended on 910 USD. I believe the buyer is very happy!

Why doesn't Tommy Wonder have the silk handkerchief float to the ground after the vanish?

I think this is pretty standard in this trick - and I always felt it adds a nice poetic feel to the vanish.

I am guessing Tommy had a reason for this?

lol - no it is not.

I got mixed up and meant to post the above comment in the thread with the video of his disappearing bird cage!

Ah! If so, no, the transparant silk is not pretty standard, but was specific to Billy McCombs routine. Which Tommy got permission to use. This was long before McCombs' routine was released. And the video clip is from a time when Tommy's routine was still being tried out. So, my guess is that he did it like this, on that particular day, just to see how it felt and how it played. Dick Koornwinder might know more.
