Let us hope that this is done with some respect to the craft.

I can't imagine Martin participating in anything that would disparage magic. His autobiography, Born Standing Up, begins with very fond remembrances of his youth performing and working in a magic shop. It was the kind of early exposure many of us wish we could have had and you definitely get the impression he's grateful for this formative experience. I highly recommend the book, especially the audio version as he is an excellent narrator.

I can imagine it happening because I am not presuming that he will have total creative control of the movie. I trust Steve Martin. I do not trust "Hollywood."

And yes, his autobiography is a marvelous book.

We know he won't have total control. When would a performer be given that kind of leverage. Having written a draft of the script, he helped to set the tone. If he doesn't like the direction it takes he could leave citing creative differences. I'm not known for being overly optimistic, but his participation will help to get the film made and this gives him influence.
