Unbelievable Price for a Comic

Postby Rennie » August 18th, 2014, 3:50 pm

Can you believe this:

I ask myself, what would I do if I had that kind of money?

Beautiful copy.

I am no longer a paper comic collector (except for some graphic novels) but do read the digital comics now and then.

If I had the money I would be very worried about:

1) the cheap newspaper print becoming so brittle and essentially falling apart in the next 20 years.

2) No market for comic books in the future. My 10,000 comic collection is almost worthless except for a few key issues as the demand for back issues has pretty much disappeared compared to the supply of books from the 70's+.

I have the reprint below that came out in the 80's for 50c. I did not realize it was worth this much:

First, they're sealed up - and some old ones are taken apart and treated to stop the acid ...

anyway it's about that "collector" thing - having it.

impressive artwork in the S&S issues. the Fleischer cartoons tried for something like the original aesthetic.
Mundus vult decipi -per Caleb Carr's story Killing Time

Think about all those folks who collected Beanie Babies and the market just died.

Ditto for folks collecting Disney pins: many of them are not worth the original price. Even very highly valued pins, such as the first Haunted Mansion pin, have seen their value halved in recent years.

Only collect what you love, never collect as an investment.

Good thing I love Tenyo, as I have spent quite a lot on it :)
