If you find yourself in New York - go see Aladdin - the new Disney musical. The show itself is nothing special ... but Jim Steinmeyer's flying carpet brings the house down.
This thing flies around the stage - up, down, left, right, full 360 ... the visual impact is incredible and not a cable or lever in sight. It looks like pure magic and gets one of the greatest responses in the entire show.
Amazing piece of theatrical illusion.

Re: Jim Steinmeyer's incredible flying carpet
Here's a video of the carpet during a Disneyland California performance that was uploaded to YouTube in March of last year, but I'm assuming it's the same illusion.

I'm pretty sure that the carpet at Disneyland (great, but visible cables) is not the same as what Steinmeyer has created for Broadway.

Re: Jim Steinmeyer's incredible flying carpet
No - the Broadway version is completely different.
It doesn't fly over the audiences head ( ala Disneyland ... which is pretty cool ) Broadway one remains on stage ... but you can see ZERO attachments ... I was burning it intently but the illusion is perfect ... the thing just floats -- they even have the slight 'hover' feel to it like a real flying carpet should.

I wonder if Steinmeyer re-purposed the rig he designed for Copperfield? It would seem possible seeing as how the carpet never leaves the stage.

Re: Jim Steinmeyer's incredible flying carpet
Jim didn't design any rig for Copperfield. That was John Gaughan.
The Flying Carpet (and the entire show on Broadway) has ZERO to do with what is playing at Disney California Adventure except for the source material and songs.
