John Calvert has Died

I'm seeing new reports on Facebook that John Calvert has died, and someone updated his WikiPedia page to reflect that he died today at 102.

This has been confirmed by people who've spoken with his widow, Tammy.

SAD News , But I understand John had been not feeling himself for some months prior.. on a More Positive Note, 102 ( Not to Shabby John ) I can Guaranteee that No Other Magician in history has had a More Adverterous Life that John Calvert...Period. !

I was lucky to have been able to "lend a hand ' during one of Johns appearances in the Boston area in the 80s where I helped in the Pipe organ Levitation that Floated up then floated out over the Audience. w/ Tammy playing it ... What a Treat that was !

Friends and fans of John Calvert may be interested to know that I have worked with Bill Rauscher to produce a unique video of an interview formally held in NYC when Fantasma Magic had a celebration for John Calvert's 100th birthday. It was a privilege to know John and hopefully this one hour YouTube presentation will help to keep his memory alive. Bill and I are happy to have worked with John on the “When Thurston Came to Town” DVD. John will remain in our minds for years to come. We hope you enjoy this presentation which in many ways helps to commemorate his life.

The first time I met John Calvert was when he was "just a kid" at 94. I met him at the Invisible Lodge Convention in Fort Smith Arkansas. Besides a lecture and a performance he did a blindfolded drive through the downtown streets of Fort Smith----during rush hour.

I was able to visit with him some at the Daytona Magic Festival when he was only 100. He was very friendly and gracious. I will never forget that night.

This much is undeniable: John Calvert was All-and-Everything everyone he touched, influenced, taught, impressed, and inspired are now saying.

Hundreds are currently praising, remembering and reciting their own, unique remembrances of him on Facebook and elsewhere. The unifying chorus is elegiac and heartwarming.

To overcome all manner of vicissitude and adversity.
To steadfastly remain the same, luminous personality—indestructible and ageless—over 80 + years.

There was true grit in his grin, true virility in his resolve, and pure, inventive entrepreneurship in his soul. He was sui generis to the max.

If it’s true that a person continues to live for as long as those who remember him or her are still alive, John Calvert’s Fourth Act has just begun.
