Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (February 2013)
February has snuck up on us, and the years shortest month is jam packed with fun at the Magic Castle:
NFL and the AMA
It might not be too late to reserve a spot at the Magic Castles Super Bowl party! Hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ (something), Mexican food, chips and dips, beverages (adult and otherwise), and the Super Bowel Sundae Bar. $20 per person (13 and up; $10 for the tweens and younger). Starts at 1:30 in the inner Circle. Contact Ben Roman ASAP to RSVP for the NFL at the AMA.
Who Says Your Vote Doesnt Count?
Voting for the AMA Awards starts online on February 4. Check the Members Only section of www.MagicCastle.com
No Admittance
Remember that the Castle will be closed on February 5 and 7 for buyouts. Rest assured that this inconvenience to members will never happen again. General Manager Joe Furlow has instituted a new policy to prevent this sort of thing.
A Work in Progress Perk
Jon Armstrongthe Magic Castles very own Superherois holding a perk made up of ideas, tricks, moves, and routines that are not fully formed but are worthy of sharing. Its an opportunity to take a concept and run with it thus making it your own. February 6 in the Peller Theatre starting at 8 PM. Magician Members only.
The Magic Castle for Lovers
Valentines Day at the Castle features a special menu, including wine and parking and the Sweets Bar. Only $50 for members ($80 for nonmembers). Reserve NOW.
A Bloody Valentine
Misty Lee will be hosting a special night of sances in the Houdini Sance Room on Valentines Day (night). Non-dining, $35 per person. 6, 8, 9:45, and 11 PM. This is selling out FAST! Call today!
An Elegant Man Talks About an Elegant Man
On February 20, Patrick Martin will be presenting a talk on Channing Pollock at the Member Meet-Up. Mr. Martin is Pollocks biographer so this should be an insightful evening on one of the most influential magicians in the history of the art. Magician Members only. 8 PM in the Inner Circle. Contact Erin Chick to reserve a spot for the 6 PM No-Host Dinner in the Dante Room.
Will it be Lincoln? Argo? Les Misrables? Lincoln?
There is an Oscars viewing party on Oscars Sunday (February 24). Pre-Party starts at 2:30 in the Inner Circle. Hot and cold buffets, soft drinks, games, and more. Only $20 for members.
Hooty-Hoot!
Whos Hoo will be taping on February 28 in the Inner Circle starting at 8 PM. Stay tuned for details.
Short Month is Long on Talent
The February Lecture Lineup is pretty darn impressive (and this scribe is wagering that the one on the 10th will move into the Palace):
2/3: Eugene Burger and Lawrence Hass
2/10: The Magic and Mystery School featuring its Faculty: Jeff McBride, Abigail McBride, Eugene Burger, Tobias, Beckwith, Bryce Kuhlman, Lawrence Hass, and George Parker.
2/17: John Shryock
2/24: Pop Haydn

I did! They made it real easy this year, and the vote will be exclusively online this year (which is a step I heartily approve of).

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (February 2013)
Road Closed:
Remember, for Oscar night preparations, the night of the show, and a few days after, that Hollywood Boulevard will be closed between Highland and Orange starting on Sunday the 17th and last through Tuesday the 26th. On the day of the Oscars part of Orange Ave will be closed as will the Highland freeway off ramps. This will impact traffic around the Magic Castle, so adjust your timing accordingly.
And speaking of the Oscars, the Castles viewing party, which features a buffet, soft drinks, games, and prizes starts at 2:30 in the Inner Circle. Just $20 per person. Contact Ben Roman for reservations.
The Architect:
The man who created the archetypal Dove Act, Channing Pollock, will be honored through a Member Meet-Up talk by Patrick Martin, who is writing the great performers biography, on February 20. The no-host dinner starts at 6 PM (contact Erin Chick for reservations) and the Meet-Up starts at 8 PM in the Inner Circle.
Its a Hoot-Mahn!:
Fitzgeralds Whos Hoo taping, with guests Brent Geris, David Minkin, and Pop Haydn starts at 8 PM in the Inner Circle on February 28.
Time for OUR Awards Night:
Tickets are available for the 45th Annual Academy of Magical Arts Awards Show right now. More information can be found by clicking HERE.

Call Me the White Rabbit:
I shall be too late! I canNOT believe that February is all but gone (down the rabbit hole of time), so how can I be expected to keep up with what day it is? (Seriously, for me, there is no difference between the days, but no excuse; sorry for the tardiness.)

A quick preview of next week: Steve Valentine will be lecturing on the Third of March (expect that to be packed, and get his new book test before he runs out) and our own Chief Genii will be talking about 76 Years of Genii on Monday the Fourth starting at 8:00 in the Inner Circle

Thanks Dustin. One small correction is that I am working the W.C.Fields Bar Friday, Saturday AND Sunday this week. I'm not sure if that is true for the Peller show.
