In Case Anyone Gives a Crap What the Genii Thinks ...

Postby Richard Kaufman » June 8th, 2012, 3:25 am

... Prometheus ROCKS!

I saw Alien opening night in New York City in 1979, standing on second avenue. I remember a theater so tense, and then all screaming at once.

I've wait over 30 years for Ridley Scott to get his ass back in the director's chair for one of these movies and he does NOT disappoint!

Go see it this weekend so it makes big bucks and we get the damn sequel we REALLY WANT!

I had posted earlier a report of a negtive review in the Sunday Telegraph in the UK.

I neglected to post an update, that one of my favorite reviewers, Philip French writing in the Observer on Sunday (also UK), gave Prometheus a rave review, something he seldom does.

It's getting harder to avoid all the trailers and spoilers that are coming thick and fast now; I'll be happy to catch up with them once I've seen the film, but that's at least another week away :(

Agreed with RK - enjoy the spectacle of this one and hope he makes the sequel SPOILER REMOVED.

Good news for the Lost phobic - nobody gets fat and stays fat on a dessert island... and no polar bears wander through the set.

Anyone else amused by the parallel to Moore's Neonomicon?

I enjoyed the film and am delighted Scott is back in the genre he changed forever. He did warn the public Prometheus was not a prequel as much as a 'jumping off point' for the original Alien.

I am however disappointed that scenes with Bob, the chimp or any mention of "The Lost Tapes" did not make the final cut.

Today on Collider Ridley Scott announced that the cut of the film on DVD and blu-ray will be 20 minutes longer! :) :)

I saw it last night in 3D. It's okay. The visuals are fantastic. Has anyone mentioned the obvious connections to Virgil Finlay's illustrations in the scene where David is manipulating the alien spaceship's controls?

There are no scares of any note -- it's much more "intellectual" than the previous films. It reminds me of one of the last scenes in "Psycho" where a psychiatrist "explains" what we've just seen and experienced: this film does the same for the first "Alien" film -- but in both cases, I don't think the explanation is required or effective -- I preferred to be scared without an explanation.

I've yet to see it but after working on a recent Ridley Scott television project, I know what the demands are upon everyone to deliver quality and can't wait to get to the theater asap for this one!
