It has been reported on multiple news outlets in the past 30 minutes, that "America's Oldest Teenager," Dick Clark, has passed away from a heart attack at age 82. I know that he was a huge fan of magic, from all of the magicians he continually showcased on his various television shows and specials over the years. A true American icon. Thanks for the decades of entertainment. Rest in peace, Mr. Clark.

Another connection between Dick Clark and our little backwater of the entertainment world is that Richard Robinson, creator of the popular All Magic Guide and Magic Show sites and a performer in his own right, was the co-author of Clark's biography "Rock, Roll & Remember."

I also seem to remember that Bob Kohler (who is also an accomplished musician) played in Dick Clark's traveling show band.

You will read of another magic connection in the forthcoming biography of Allan Slaight (author of The James File). Slaight taught Clark and his team, using the latest technology, how to make it appear as though his syndicated radio program was taking place 'live' in the local studio. (Slaight and his team developed this technique at CHUM.) Clark and Slaight had a very long friendship.

When he hosted his variety show, "Mr. Escape" - Steve Baker made a number of appearances.

"It had a good beat and it was easy to dance to."
