As I read it, voting was not by the citizens of Snowmass, but anyone online worldwide. Here's the about.com write up:

Here are the poll results, which may say more about the voting demographic than the performers (no offense to Doc, whom I like and admire!):

Here are the results of the stage magic poll, which are even more curious:

Who are JC Sum and 'Magic Babe' Ning (they got 55% of the votes, versus just 17% for runner-up David Copperfield!)?

No offense taken, Richard. the voting was sooo skewed that my initial enthusiasm was quickly replaced by a backpedal away from this 'contest'
.. cmon, Juan? Lennart.. ? Cyril?! me? cmon.. and yet somehow Mr Cohen and I were in the lead, commandingly so.. it was a t this point where I realized that this is really kind of silly. When it turned out that I somehow outpaced the field, I had to smile and shake my head. I am flattered but also realistic. Many thanks to those who voted for me. I appreciate your support. ( I voted for Juan!)

Hi Doc, congratulations on this! Looking forward to your lecture (and possibly workshop, if I can swing the time) in Salt Lake City next month.

Here you go Richard:

You just know they must be good. They're the first magicians from Singapore to win the prestigious Merlin Award. :/
