PerksLots of Perks Gordon Gekko
Its no joke, the first week of April has not one, but two Perks scheduled for members:
Monday, April 2: Creativity Session w/Lubor Fiedler & Mark Setteducati
Wednesday, April 4: Mike Caveney on the poster collection on display at the Magic Castle
Both events start at 8:00PM in the Inner Circle
Kids..Lots of Kids
April 5 is one of the always popular Young Adults nights. This is where youngsters age 13 and up may go to the Magic Castlewith a memberduring regular business hours. (Dress code applies.) Ive seen how these kids behave and its better than some of the adults. (Perhaps its time for the powers that be to consider doing this on a monthly basis. After all, the importance of these youths to the future of magic and the Magic Castle cannot be diminished.)
The Easter Bunny Out of the Castles Hat
The Easter Bunny will be at Sunday Brunch on April 8. Photos will be available for purchase. And there will be an Easter Egg Hunt around the Castle.
CHA-CHING!!!
Mark the date: Saturday April 14 is the spring edition of the Magic Castle Swap Meet. Everyone is welcome (non-members pay a small door charge.) Doors open at 9:00 AM.
Hanging with Houdini
Three non-dining Houdini Sances are scheduled for the evening of April 19: 6, 8, and 9:45 PM. Hang with Houdiniand experience a GREAT show with host Leo Kostkafor only $35. ($40 gets you a commemorative coin.) Call 323-851-3313 ext. 434 for details!
Hoo Could it Be???
The will be a taping of Whos Hoo at the Castle on April 23, but just hoo the subject(s) is/are has not yet been divulged. Its always a party with Fitzgerald and the band, so stay tuned for details.
This is a Test
Wednesday April 25 will be the first Members Only night in quite a long time. Guests are allowed in only with a member. There are plans for a couple Mystery Guests who will be performing in the Peller Theater and behind the WC Fields Bar. Whether more will happen depends on its success, so if you want more of these nights, show the BoD by taking advantage!
Lavish Lecture Lineup
Even though there isnt one on the 1st, the April Members Lecture schedule is impressive:
April 8: SOMA (the 2011 FISM Grand Prix winner)
April 15: Daryl (the one and only Fooler-Dooler his own selfand a FISM winner too!)
April 22: John Van Der Put (the Magic Circles 2011 Close-Up Magician of the Year)
April 29: Tony Montana (award winning close-up performer from Buenos Aires)

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (April 2012)
Lu Chen's performance was clearly aimed at his fans back home, and not at the people in the room. The feeling was not that the cameras were capturing a live performance, but that we were a studio audience witnessing a television taping.
This is not praise or complaint - just an observation.

Interesting... could be... maybe the TV folks helped pay his way over? I know Monday morning he was flying back home.
He is used to doing TV Specials... maybe that is his forte... and where his income is derived.

I just returned home from the Lubor Fiedler perk. My mind is still spinning. The man is amazing. There were many "what the..." moments. Thanks to Mr. Fiedler, Mark Setteducati, Max Maven, and the Castle Trustees for holding this great evening.
Next up, Mike Caveney and the Castle's poster collection!
(And Michael, if you're reading this: Thank you again. Really, you are also one of a kind.)

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (April 2012)
Last nights Poster Perk by Mike Caveney was fantastic. He went through all of the (old) posters at the Castle, including the ones that adorn the mens rooms walls. He talked about lithography and restoration and even value. Hopefully everyone there will be able to remember the history behind those wonderful artifacts for when they are giving their guests a tour of the old clubhouse.
It has been an unbelievable week at the Castle. First a fantastic awards show, then Lubor Fiedler, and then Caveney. And of course the talent in the showrooms is excellent. Its been a long time since I have gone to the Castle three times in one week.

Absolutely; the poster presentation was first-rate, and with comic relief in the running joke about Milt's sometimes rough handling and questionable placement of rare posters.

Don't forget that the Swap Meet is Saturday (4/14) starting at 9 AM. Daryl is in town, so I suspect he will be selling stuff. I know that Mike Caveney will be there (and he has a new poster every Caveney fan must have; this one already purchased his).
Nonmembers are welcome ($8 entry charge).

Took myself to the Castle last night and saw Handsome Jack, Tom, and the Palace show. Absolutely sensational! Also met a relation of the Thayers. Great night.

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (April 2012)
I would like someone to please report on the Members Only Night here (I couldn't be thereI was white-knuckling it on a 757 inbound from Chicago). I hear that it was fantastic.
Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (April 2012)
FANTASTIC, crowded, but worth it to see Johnny Thompson do is 'other' stuff: Balls in Net, Egg Bag and his trade show Nemo 1500. And Jon Armstrong at the bar FOOLED THE C OUT OF ME with is new "Plunger" CARD ROUTINE. A tiny, toy toilet plunger... won't say more, you must see.
Stay tooned.

Re: Magic Castle Happenings – The Good Stuff (April 2012)
Johnny's egg bag was the best I've ever seen. Worth the line!
It was almost as crowded as a weekend, except you knew most of the people and they were all well behaved. There were moments when I just stopped to wonder at the beauty of the place full of smiling people, all talking to each other and apparently having a fabulous time. A wonderful, convivial evening all around!

Yes, I have. I have also seen Charlie Miller do it. I love Bob White, but I still prefer John's.

I know its short notice, but I just found out about it myself. Judd Ehrlichs new documentary, Magic Camp made its world premiere yesterday at the Newport Beach Film Festival. For AMA members only, there will be a private screening of the movie in the Inner Circle at 3:00 PM. More information on the film can be found here: http://www.magiccampmovie.com/

Jonathan and I saw the premiere in Newport Beach yesterday, and very much enjoyed it. I recommend you catch it at the Castle if you get the chance.
