Tommy Wonder

Postby Dick Koornwinder » June 26th, 2011, 12:15 pm

This morning I realized today it is already five years ago Tommy Wonder passed away.

I feel still the same sadness.

Take care,
Dick

I feel the loss just about every day. He was a great magician and a wonderful human being.

Some time ago, perhaps 1978 at the NY Magic Symposium, I first saw Tommy Wonder do his cups and balls. He handled the cups differently and used balls that looked like pretzels. He had his own style and approach to the trick. What an inspiration! Then I found out that all of his magic was like that. And he made most of his props too. Wow!

I hope folks took the lesson he taught by example - that what really works has to come from your own needs, vision and persistence in improving what you perform.

Tommy's first performance at a convention in NYC was in 1978, but it was the SAM national convention at the Waldorf.

Wow! Hard to believe that its been that long already. I was fortunate to meet him before he passed. He was - a remains - a true inspiration. Thanks, Max, for getting those VISIONS OF WONDER DVDs made and a part of Tommy's contribution to magic preserved.

So sad to go so young... we used to go to a great Sushi bar in San Francisco every time he stopped there on flight layovers, etc. Great thinker/performer and a fine person... his legacy lives on.
Stay tooned.
