I'll announce it this week!
Re: The Essential Magic Conference July7,8,9 2011
I guess I didn't win because we haven't heard anything about it and EMC starts in less than 2 days!

Re: The Essential Magic Conference July7,8,9 2011
I have emailed all three winners and am awaiting their responses. So far, one has replied (http://twitter.com/MormonYoYoMan) and has registered.
If I don't receive an email from the either two by the morning. I'll move on and email the runner's up.
Congrats to everyone that won and thanks to everyone that entered! If I could give you all a free pass I would!

Looking forward to this. Watched the live test stream today. David Berglas tipped that his presentation would be two thought of card methods from a fan and a discussion of magician's choice.
For whatever reason they don't seem to have hyped it as much this year, but the lineup is pretty great.

The first session just finished and it looks great so far. Just a few out of sync issues for some people around the world, which they could fix live for some of us.

For young magicians trying to figure out how to move into performing, I thought Rudy Coby's lecture was pretty good. As for the sync issue, it was there for me but pretty minor. Like maybe a half a second. I got used to it.

Stan Allen's lecture was highlight for me.
Things are off to a great start!
(Too bad, Internet Explorer folks can't yet participate in the live chat because that's a lot of fun also.)

Nice start. Lu Chen's Berglas effect and Rene Lavand's Oil and Water were performance highlights. (I just went back to RK's book on Rene and the method is even more bewildering; he makes it look so easy and fair.) I also really liked Max's trick which he promises to teach and Stan's list. Eric Mead came up with a pretty cool card trick at 13 that he showed Vernon. I'd like to hear what Vernon thought of it.

The EMC is fantastic. David Britland's talk on Chan Canasta, with film clips, was great, as were the Lavand and Lu Chen performances.

The Lu Chen performance of the Berglas effect was quite a fooler!
Is this version covered in Richard's new book?
The only (lame) explanation I could come up with was complicity on the part of the third spectator (David Britland) but his handling of the deck looked clean.

I liked William Kalush's Houdini talk-- he's really quite a scholar--nice to see such passion about the subject.

Re: The Essential Magic Conference July7,8,9 2011
So far the conference is going well. I haven't caught much of it live but they are getting the sessions up for on demand viewing much quicker this year and I've caught about half of the conference so far . Highlights so far were the discussions by Eric Mead, Stan Allen, Dani DaOrtiz, Paul Daniels, Richard Wiseman, Bill Kalush, Gaeton Bloom and Luis de Matos. The best advice I heard so far came from Paul Daniels' talk and was reinforced by Luis de Matos' talk - Give the spectator a story that they will tell for the rest of their lives.

It is a great pleasure to see all these wonderful magicians gathered, and the talks have all been of interest so far.

Amen to that!
(I also loved Luis de Matos detailed discussion of his spectator's vanishing car illusion--so well thought out and clever. Sometimes I think it's easy to think stage guys are all about boxes and props, but here he demonstrated exactly how much work goes into creating the amazing magical moment Frank mentioned above.)

Did anyone understand Lennart Green's story about the druids? :)
A lot of people talk about "concealing skill" when handling cards, but Mr. Green's stuff is the epitome of that...I just couldn't stop laughing at the end of the routine--he's great!

Maybe its me (?) but some how it seems in the Poorest of taste for Lu Chen to
"attempt" the legendary Berglas effect w/ David sitting in the room.
The Effects Been done by Berglas .....its Alredy reached legendary status by Berglas.
What Lu Chen did was yet another version of ACAAN...But is it what David did ?
Kinda like being frozen in a block of ice ,been done or Buried alive ...Houdini already did both of these....So why would anyone would want to do them again and be a xerox , Beats me. !

I think Mr. Berglas was quite pleased with the performance. Later, after goodness knows how many people--including (apparently) a few in the room--begged for an explanation, he admonished Lu Chen not to reveal the explanation.

Have you noticed that Essential Magic Conference logo is a trip-let, a 3-dimensional object shaped in such a way that its projections along three mutually perpendicular axes are three different letters of the alphabet?
