Seuss, glad it arrived. We had NO mail either Saturday or today in DC. Perhaps tomorrow.

My wife, in addition to being a graphic designer, was a photojournalist before I married her. That's why she was qualified to take the photos. Because the book is printed in China, the colors don't look nearly as good as the originals, but they're certainly clear and big! That's the Knack format.

Don't wait! I've already added the Paul Curry trick from the first section to my set.

The devious smile on the author's back-cover pic, is matched exactly by the devious smile on Emma's face within the pages of the tome. There is no doubt, a new dynasty has been formed.

It turns out, and I can't figure how this happened, that the credit to Paul Curry is incorrect. Max informed me that the trick is actually Larry Becker's. Hopefully there'll be a second printing and I can get that, along with the misspelling of Hofzinser's first name, changed.

Hey Richard...

Just browsing at Border's Books with my pal Chris Power today - came across the Knack book - Well done, my friend!
And thank you for the nice words, the updated gimmick and including the trick!

I've been enjoying the book. I like the close-up cut and restored string in straw. One thing you failed to mention in that trick is a "snap" sound you hear when you pull the string down through the slit. No big deal, but it needs some cover.

There is no snap sound when I pull the string down into the slit. Perhaps it has to do with the kind of plastic in the straw you're using, or what the string is made of. I used cotton string, and real fibers react differently than if you used, for example, any kind of nylon or poly string. Then you've got plastic against plastic.

I used cotton string but it was a little thin, so I tried some that was thicker and it worked better.

I also like Jackson Takes a Powder. I haven't made the gimmick yet, partly because of your instructions that "it may take you a few tries to cut out Andrew Jackson's head properly." That sounds like 60 bucks to me :)

PT: For practice purposes ONLY (!!!!), you might make a black and white photocopy of the $20 bill and practice the cuting on that.

My book Knack Magic Tricks is now available for the Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/Knack-Magic-Trick ... 796&sr=8-2

And also the Sony ebook Reader:

http://ebookstore.sony.com/ebook/richar ... tLanding_1

Since the book revolves around the large color photos, I really can't imagine it looking very good on either of these devices, but when they get around to making it available for the iPad it should look pretty snazzy.

Meanwhile, I still have copies printed on real paper, autographed on request, for $20 and you can PayPal me the dough at moobooks@verizon.net

Any word on an iBooks date? I have an iPad and I'm tempted to try the Kindle for iPad version. The Amazpn page says it's a specially formatted large file intended for larger devices. Just would want to make sure the images are in color.

Yes, full color. The only problem with it, after looking at it more closely, is that the the sidebars -- the Variations, Who Invented This, etc. -- aren't really separated out from the main text. They all just run together. (I'm assuming in the print version they are separated somehow.) I suspect this is a fault of the Kindle eBook formatting in general, though.

Many of the ebook file formats are pretty simplistic in their approach to books and were developed for displaying books that consisted mostly of linear text that might just happen to have some inline illustrations. Design elements such as sidebars, mixed fonts, tables, etc. get lost.

Richard

My granddaughter just informed me she is interested in magic and I believe "knack" would be perfect for her. She is just starting first year of college. I know this is an old thread, but was wondering if you still had books to sell. Amazon will due, but thought I would ask you first.

Yes, I do have books, and it's so nice your granddaughter is interested in magic.

Please call the Genii office at 302-652-5800 and Margret will take your order. If you'd like it autographed to her, just let Margret know.

Thanks.
