I think, although clearly a comedy act, there is something many magicians can learn from watching this...

What room in The Magic Castle is that? I didn't recognize it.

This appears to be in the Pellar Theater downstairs next to the Castle Library. Lot's of impromtu shows, special events, smaller lectures, etc. take place down there.

Comedy act or Magic act or combination... he demands and keeps the attention of the audience.

This is called 'Plan B', as we all know.

It is not The Magic Castle. There are steps down the middle isle. The only rooms that have steps are the Close-up room and the Parlour and neither of them have the steps down the middle.

Nope not the Magic Castle. There is no room like that with a raised stage and Terraced seating

He trying to be deliberately inept. He was mistaking frenetic movement for "funny".

The tell came when he dumped the deck out of the blue box onto the table and floor. It was just a scosh too contrived.

Criticism aside, his comedic instincts are good. He just needs direction and experience.

He moves around too much. At the beginning he goes from center to right to center to right. He can't stand still except for when something small happens, which is a HUGE tell.
Maybe if he calmed down a bit I'd have reacted differently than I did, but he didn't so I did.

He's got lots of clips on youtube, and I think he's pretty funny.
Just search for elliot the hawk. And the lesson is, don't take it so seriously, m'kay?

Yeah a tell. Any comedian worth half his salt knows you don't let the audience see the joke coming. Every time he slows down a joke happens, therefore a tell.
With that said, yes, the audience thought he was funny. I didn't. So call it a 99.9% success.
