"feverish with anticipation"? - has someone intercut the Ackerman video with clips from Rocky Horror? Will the video's arrival relieve the cause - but not the symptoms?

[font:Comic Sans MS]Hey Guys,
I got my AckermanErdnase package from Geno Monday afternoon also. What a beautiful job done. Geno and Allan are to be congratulated. This Erdnase 11 DVD set and the bonus package was well worth waiting for. I spent the entire day watching all the teaching DVDs. I was amazed at the number of newspaper articles included on the DVD with all the pdf files. I believe their were 72. The introductory disk was fantastic. All that was missing was Clint Eastwood and John Wayne.
I was happy that Allan held back the Erdnase Pull-Down Move as it is just too good to show the real work on it :-)
The DVD Package has to be one of the greatest bargains and contributions to card magic.
Again, thank you Geno and Allan for this superlative package.[/font]

Got this little box in my mailbox on 9/2/08 around noon. Love that looks after I opened the box! Can't wait to watch and learn from it. English is my second language and I have a hard time to understand from the book! Glad DVDs came out!

Mine arrived yesterday (9/2) in Chicago. I'm still trying to figure out how I've gotten such a high quality set for only $130. Obviously a lot of work went into it, and if the first DVD is any indication, it's one of, if not the, best magic set ever produced.

Don't laugh, the way my fingers miss keys I thought I had spelled it wrong! Had to go back to check it.
Watched the bottom & second dealing DVD today and all I got to say is. . .beautiful.
Re: Allan Ackerman's "Expert at the Card Table" DVD+ Sale on His Website
I got this when y'all first got it and just now have watched the first disc.
(Wow!)
I only know Mr. Ackerman from a few previous dvds ( his contribution to Dave Solomon's Marlo tribute "It's all in the Cards" is outstanding.... as is the Advanced Card Control Series ) Mr. Ackerman has sealed the deal with this first viewing of this first disc; I wish to have everything he releases.
Geno deserves a standing ovation for this set. It's obviously a labor of love for all the parties concerned. I have rarely made a magic purchase that feels so good, that gives me such a feeling of gratitude.
Thank you Mr. Munari

The Richard Hatch interview is fascinating, and it is very nice to be able to listen to Martin Gardner. This set was underpriced.
By the way, check out my new Az car tag.

I Agree. It's easy to say after you purchased a set, but I do think it is underpriced.

Got my set too...thanks. I have not watched a lot of it, but enough say that that Ackerman should have trimmed his fingernails. It's the obvious thing to do if your hands are 98% of the time in close up.

and another thing is, if I play the videos on my pc, I notice a lot of blurred horizontal lines during motion. isn't this supposed to be in high definition? (or higher at least).

Larry Jennings kept his fingernails a bit longer than most. So do I. So do some other magicians. It's a personal choice.
Now, to deal with Carlo's second comment, what you are seeing is called "combing." It happens more often on my computer than on my usual AV TV setup. It's usually the result of the DVDs not being mastered as "interlaced" rather than "progressive." Play them in your normal DVD player: do you still see the lines?

I understand that. But AA's nails do not seem to be well groomed, some seem longer (left hand) some seem shorter, and they do not look so good on screen.

Indeed I did try it on TV- and I do not notice the lines. I also tried a few other players on the pc and they give better results than my original player.

Is this the right place to talk about the actual sleights?
I watched only the bottom deal. I am wondering if AA is actually following Erdnase's method of pushing the bottom card out. I always wondered
about that move: is it necessary? seems to me that there is unnecessary knuckle movement - one can just reach the bottom card with the right 2nd finger.

There are people who do a push-out bottom, and people who just pull it out. Different strokes.

Sure, but it seems to me that Ackerman is not using Erdnase's "push out" method in his first bottom dealing demonstration. I could very well be wrong, but this is what it looks like to me.

Second deal, same thing. In the demo he just uses a standard strike, not the method explained afterwards.

Received my set in the UK today - haven't had the opportunity to view any of the content as yet but the packaging looks pretty neat, an innovative departure from the standard DVD 'box set' design.
Was a wee bit disappointed that I had to pay a customs charge of 17 pounds (approx 30 dollars) before the post office would deliver - in all my many dozens of mail order and auction purchases from the US over the years I think this is only the 2nd occasion I've been caught out by the boys at HM Customs and Excise (so perhaps I shouldn't complain too much).
In reality, items imported to the UK from other countries are subject to a customs charge if the items have a value in excess of 18 pounds sterling, so perhaps I've been fortunate in the past.
Would be interesting to hear though if any other UK purchasers of this set incur a similar charge.
In the meantime, I look forward to viewing these much anticipated discs.
Cheers
Andrew

Andrew,
My package is at the Post Office at the moment with a charge of 17 as well: I'll be probably picking it up tomorrow (just flown back home from Scotland...).
Books are not subject to custom duties, but other items, like DVDs, unfortunately are... I've been stung a number of times with tricks, books and memorabilia (recently, I had to pay 49 on an old photo bought at an auction! :( ).
All the best,

Good old UK Post Office - you pay for shipping and delivery then have to travel to collect it...
I'll (almost) happily pay Customs fees, but grudge every leeching penny the PO charges to administer this...
(recently charged on a 100USD purchase - 3 pounds Customs fee, 8 pounds PO fee - and STILL I've got to collect the package GRRRR!)

 Well, I don't know you, but at my local PO (Bury St. Edmunds) you can't pay with credit/debit card: only cash or cheque!!! :o Apparently, they "aren't yet in the XXI century" (so the lad said...)

Re: Allan Ackerman's "Expert at the Card Table" DVD+ Sale on His Website
I watched the disc with Martin Gardner's audio interview, and those with Richard Hatch. I thoroughly enojoyed them...I wanted to learn more about the mistery, and I certainly did. I am impressed by Hatch, the way he was able to give his presentation withouth editing (maybe a couple here and there). The man really knows all there is to know, apparently....and it was nice to see actual items, letters, documents, photos, books, etc. One of the few things left out was David Alexander's theory, but we know that we must buy the Genii magazine for that.
The only glitch is that Hatch's glasses keep falling down (roughly every 30 seconds). This problem is easy to solve however: just have them adjusted, either the arms or the nose pieces (or both).
