Re: Watch the First Episode of Celebracadabra Now!
Jules Lenier, of blessed memory, told me once "Women are magical beings; men do magic tricks." I don't think he was being derogatory about the men so much as he was admiring the women.... and encouraging a woman who had just encountered "the old boys' group."
As a woman studying magic, I know there are things I have to think about differently. Except for my jeans, none of my trousers have pockets. Even if my jacket had a breast pocket, I'd get some very funny looks reaching into it.
There is a fair amount of discouragement of women studying magic, but I find far more folks ready to encourage me.
I studied differences in communication styles based on sex when I was working on my masters degree. Much of what I learned there would translate into how one works with an audience. You won't hear me comment on one sex being better or worse; but, it's fair to say we do things differently.
Thanks to the men who have encouraged me along the way; and sincerest thanks to the amazing women who have encouraged and inspired me. --

Richard, you stated:
"Saying that women make better magicians is like stating that they make better musicians."
Actually they probably DO make better magicians AND musicians. Why are there not more of them pursuing those particular fields? -- Because maybe they're smart enough to know just how unstable BOTH of those careers are. : )
