A book signing you can't miss

Postby The Magic Apple » March 29th, 2008, 12:32 am

BIG HUGE NEWS:
On Tuesday, the first of April, The Magic Apple in Studio City will be having a book signing by one of magic's BIGGEST STARS! Due to security reasons, we can't release his name but here is a hint:

He printed 2 books and they are both out of print BUT (even though everyone said it would never happen) he is re-printing ONLY 100 of each of them and will have them here, signed and numbered on the 1st. From 4pm to 6pm. Each book will be less than $60 each! This is a first come first serve basis and we cannot hold any of the books. I hope to see you there!

Sounds like Derren Brown to me, but that also seems highly unlikely.

Magic Apple, it's nice that you let people in on what you have going on, but I would suspect it only is good info for maybe 5% of the users here. If you were to offer the books autographed and to be shipped that would be different. Wished I lived closer you have a lot of good things going on...

Derren's on tour in the U.K.

April Fool's Day book signing by an un-named magic celeb?

Hmmm...

2 books, both out of print, but reprinting 100 each. So, if he's reprinting only 100 of each, that means they're not big hardcovers, but some sort of copy-shop job. I don't see how that coincides with "one of magic's biggest stars."

Didn't you pull some crap last year on the 1st of April?

Kind of hard to take you seriously this time around.

Last year I think a couple of folks actually went to your shop to be fooled and weren't too happy with you.

With the price of gas and a 4 hour one way drive I don't think I'll take the chance that you're not just trying to drum up business, without a little more information.

That's what I kinda remember, though I could find no history of it in the forum search, maybe it got deleted (which, you could do back then), I remember one of the individuals that was really annoyed was Pete Biro, he posted his displeasure here on the forum.

John Carney also has two out of print magic books...and lives in the vicinity...

John Carney put out at least 7 books that I can think of off the top of my head.

Most of Carney's productions were booklets with only two actual books--Carneycopia and Book of Secrets. However, it's not economically feasible to reprint 100 copies of each. You could do it on lulu.com, however the retail price would be exorbitant and lulu would make most of the dough. Not John's style.

It was great and I was able to get autographed copies of both of the limited edition books, although I had to promise not to reveal the identity of the secret author/magician.

According to Darren Brown's website Derren Brown Tour he was performing in England on Mar 31 and April 1, it is a 21.75 hour non stop flight round trip between the two, adding in the time for security, commuting, it would be an impossible feat for anyone to pull off.

Do you mean to say that it's a really bad idea for Brent to falsely advertise on the Genii Forum?

Gosh, what a concept.
