Re: 2004 LVMI Schedule UPDATED
Just found out the Gerry McCambridge (you may have seen his show, The Mentalist 1 hour special on NBC)will be at MINDvention.
Doug Henning, David Copperfield, David Blaine and Gerry McCambridge are the only four performers of this nature who can boast that they achieved the prestigious status of having their own one hour prime time national network television special.

Didn't Lance Burton have a special on NBC one year?
And what about Penn & Teller (counting them as one unit)? And Siegfried and Roy (counting them as one unit too)?
And Rudy Coby (if you count FOX as a national network, which you should)?

Of course, this list gets a bit shorter if you use "more than one special" as a sort criteria. And, Jeremy is quite right...there were several others (including Valentino, if we're to be technical.)Originally posted by Danny Archer:

Hey Jim...I mean Sisti...Speaking of Bi-polar,
Sorry you were not able to pass the simple screening process to gain exclusive membership into the mentalism "TRI" forums.
I do not vote or take part in the screening or voting process, but I can't say I blame the membership for unanimously rejecting your application two different times... you kind of went bi-polar on them for a while during both the screenings.
Glad you found a place here on the Genii forums to vent your aggressions.

Re: 2004 LVMI Schedule UPDATED
I think you'd be surprised, Gerry, at what a number of TRI members think of your "screening process." In fact, several were very candid with me about that and other matters concerning TRI at the recent MAGIC Live! convention in Las Vegas.
At least I don't feel the need to hide behind a screen name and hawk my own convention appearances. That's a little wacky, even for you.
"Count me in" indeed.

Add Ricky Jay to that network special list.
Hey Jim, I considered forking over $100 once to join the PEA. My wife said, "Forget it. You're not psychic, and you're not entertaining." It's a cold house.

The Ricky Jay show on CBS wasn't about him, the subject was Learned Pigs and Fireproof women. I'd put it up there with a World's Greatest Magic Special as there wasn't one magician/performer as the focus of the show.
The HBO show wouldn't be considered a major network. (Only counting the big 4: NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox).

Re: 2004 LVMI Schedule UPDATED
The TRI screening process was designed by the members who actually care about keeping people like yourself who "think" they are (but really are not) hard core mentalists out.
The members question potential members during the process and the members vote on potential after the process. All I do is post the name in the forum.
I have nothing to do with the questions raised and never vote on any applications. Except in your case, I would have bent my own rule and voted after reading all your whining and bitching during the questioning process when you realized the voting was so against you and you did not have an ice cubes chance in hell of passing the vote both times.
Some TRI members may complain (or so you say they do), and nothing is stopping them from resigning if they are SO bent out of shape about the process, but at least they got in Jim. May be they just felt the need to be cordial in your presence, and were one of the many to cast a vote to keep you out.

So, then, that leads to the question: why is your esteemed leader doing precisely what it is he demands members not do?Originally posted by Cameron Roat:
Don't talk about T.R.I.
I think that behavior might explain some of the comments Jim received from TRI members while at MAGIC Live! (I know who and what was said because I heard them first hand.)

I want two questions answered:
1) Is "PJ" actually Gerry McCambridge?
2) What the hell is "TRI"
And if the stupid remarks don't stop I'll simply lock the thread.

Jonathan,
As a joke I posted
Since Jim Sisti still has sour grapes about a forum I run (in which his application for membership was voted down two times), he felt the need to jump into the MINDvention thread and make a joke about Bi-polar disease.
Since my sister has the disease, it is not a funny issue to me.
I do not know Sisti, I never meet Sisti, and I dont give a rats a$$ about Sisti. For some reason he thought I had a personal agenda against him when he was joining the TRI forum, and he could have not have been any further from the truth.
At first, it didnt matter to me if he gained membership status or not on TRI. I was busy taping my television special and did not take part in his interview process. But after getting voted on, and his potential membership declined, he became very hostile, and his true colors came shining through.
So Jonathan, to answer our question, the MINDvention thread turned to a TRI thread when Sisti opened his mouth and trashed me yet again.
Lets turn the thread back to MINDvention after speaking with Danny; I know he is trying to put on the best convention possible. I will be in the Vegas area that week, and will try to stop by to see all the guys. If anyone wants to get together privately, drop me a line.

Re: 2004 LVMI Schedule UPDATED
Wow, I can't believe you don't know Jim Sisti. He published the Magic Menu, one of the premier magic publications for restaurant magicians. He has performed, lectured, published, and been involved in the magic scene for over 25 years, perhaps longer.
He is on the list of Internations Stars of Magic. Hes written articles for every major magic publication I can think of, and probably a few Ive never heard of, and not just recently but for many years.
He's created great original routines. Jim Sisti is credited in many magic publications, both written and on video, by many famous magicians. Ive heard numerous professionals mention him at lectures, including Michael Ammar, Don Drake, and others who I cant recall. Hes been on the cover of many magic publications. He is even one of the distributors for Richard Osterlinds material and has performed with him.
His list of corporate clients is like a whos who of American business.
He is one of my favorite lecturers, and I was thrilled to meet him about 10 years ago.
Im simply amazed you never heard of him before.
I regret he made a bipolar related joke, but you know that he didnt mean to target your sister. I do understand his anger at not getting into your organization. Frankly, I dont understand your antagonistic posts where you repeat some of the same information. You will not discredit Mr. Sisti. Hes too well known and too well liked. Hes also human.
Your organization is worse off for not having him. I suspect he knows more practical information related to deception than most of your members, but I cant know that for sure since your membership list is secret.

I'm not a memeber of the TRI, or any magic organization or clubs, but it's nice to know there is a club that subjects their potential members to a questioning and vote on their acceptance. I don't believe just because you can pay the monthly dues and sign an application, it should make you a member.

Richard, I don't think anybody answered your second question. It is Thought Readers (sic) International. One of the qualifications is obviously that you do not know there is an error in the first quoted sentence above and the organization's title....Originally posted by Richard Kaufman:

I also am glad there is a place that is not open to all. And I think that the screening process is a good idea.
Yes I was sponsored (didn't have to beg though, just asked a friend nicely if he thinks its a place for me), and no I did not get in. I thought the screening process was very civil, and more to the point - it was actually interesting for me. I had to think about myself and the art in ways I probably did not articulate to myself before.

Back on topic, I have a couple of questions about the convention:
Will registrants at the convention, who are not Thought Readers International members, be treated differently than members? Are the lectures merely hours of theory, with no exposure of any effects? Or (and I have to ask) are the lectures actually silent, to permit only those "real workers" to receive the thought-transported secrets?
For my registration, I would like to think that I would leave the convention with at least some practical and usable material.

MINDvention is not for Gerry McCambridge and his cadre. To the best of my knowledge, while he may invite and/ or allow arrogant, out of control egomaniacs to the convention, Danny himself is not and I've seen nothing whatsoever to indicate he has any intention of treating anyone specially, other than to give all registrants the best mentalism convention he possibly can.
I don't think we should either ascribe to, or blame Danny for Gerry's behavior here or elsewhere.

Howdy from Denver!
I haven't checked this thread in a while since it was 2004 LVMI Schedule Updated...
That said it's good to see so many people talking about the upcoming MINDvention...
My partner and I are doing all we can to make MINDvention an interesting and worthwhile convention that will focus in on mentalism...
After running the LVMI for four years (and having a ball doing it), I though it would be fun to expand into another area and mentalism seemed like the way to go...
It's something I am working on myself and I know many other performers who are also working on mentalism ... we were not prepared for some of the reactions (both positive and negative) we received, but we are big boys and we can take it ... the reaction has been so positive that we are already planning for a second MINDvention in 2005 at the new home of the LVMI the Palace Station Casino...
I was going to keep my mouth shut until after MINDvention finishes, but I will say the LVMI will take place next June 12-14th in Las Vegas and our special guest will be the one and only Paul Harris ...
After MINDvention ends I will announce more details on LVMI 2005 and MINDvention 2005 ...
