Ormond McGill Turning 90!

Postby Guest » May 7th, 2003, 6:38 am

My good friend Ormond McGill is approaching his 90th birthday. (June 15th, 2003) Although hes had some medical challenges in the past two or three years, he is still going strong. He came out, in the company of his friend Lee Grabel to see a show I did with Chuck Mignosa, Loyd Auerbach, and Robert Kane in Concord California on April 12.

Ormond is known as the Dean of American Stage Hypnotists and is the author of The Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism as well as 32 other books. His autobiography is at the publishers awaiting a release in late 2003. He is truly a living legend and is known worldwide for his writings and his performances featuring Hypnotism, Mentalism and Magic.

Ormond will be performing and lecturing at the Masters Ultimate Stage Hypnosis Seminar coming up in Las Vegas. It will be held at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino June 19th 22, 2003. There will be an optional magic course on Monday, June 23rd as well. Other presenters at the Seminar include Jerry Valley, Tommy Vee, Chuck Mignosa, Serena Lumiere, and Christina Kaya.

Should you wish to attend, you may register by calling 800-418-9664. To read more about the seminar, visit Jerry Valley's web site at: http://www.valleyhypnosis.com

There's a full page ad for the seminar in the May GENII, on page 16.

A rumor was posted today on the Kevin James Board that Ormond has passed away today. I got a panicked call from a friend. IT'S NOT TRUE!
Ormond is just fine and having a good day at home. I called Chuck Mignosa who spoke to Ormond at about 5:30 PM California time.
He's well and happy and still looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday and to participating in the Stage Hypnosis Seminar.
Any help in squelching this rumor will be appreciated.

Yeah, this internet thing is such a blessing and a curse!

One unfounded, unsubstantiated idea can be propagated at a click of a button!

Ormond is an amazing human being and an awesome friend and mentor... Funny thing, he didn't even know he had died today. (Hehehehehe!)

He's alive n' well and of course doin' just fine and is ready to party with us in Vegas in June!

Come Party with us!

I am at your service and in His service,
Deano <== The panicked friend of Ormond and Dennis

Ormond will probably outlive all of us.

I had the honor (and challenge!) of following him (with one act between us, thank goodness) at the National Guild of Hypnotists Convention 2000.

What a gentleman and what a performer! Not to mention that he said nice things about my show to the coordinators!

Can't beat that on any given day.

And Mr. Loomis, you may not recall me, but way back in about '78, I was President of Ring 210 in Ann Arbor, where we first met. I later ran Max Ettinger's magic shop on Telegraph and 10 Mile Road outside Detroit. Glad to see you are in good health and still performing.

I'm glad to hear that Ormond is still doing well and performing. As a kid in the 70's I was lucky enough to meet him when he lived in Palo Alto with his wife, Delight. I recognise Chucks name from that time too but am having a hard time placing the face (did you know Dennis Mconoughey, Chuck?).

Anyhow I was lucky enough to see Ormond perform a couple times including a dinner show at the long defunct magic restaurant in San Carlos, and was VERY lucky enough to have been invited to his home once for an evening. He showed I and my family members his amazing insect/arachnid collection, from his travels around the world, all mounted and catalogued. He had a very neat tiki-lounge/south sea magic room out back where he showed us a few effects.

Someone here said it best: Ormond is truly a gentleman, as well as a great performer.
