Tricks With Cell Phones

Postby David Acer » June 10th, 2003, 11:59 am

I'm curious to know if anyone is aware of any published tricks using cell phones, other than Simon Lovell's "Waiting For God" and my own "Mitosis." Please respond in English and with as little swearing as possible.

I'm pretty sure Docc Hilford uses one in the context of a seance routine in his book "Band of the Hand"

Tim Ellis has a couple of nifty ideas in his lecture notes: "Twenty Years of Living Next Door to Ellis" (title may not be exactly right)

My buddy Liam Montier has several effects using mobile phones and has fooled me with each and every one of them. They're not published right now, but if you want some info David, drop me an e-mail and I'll put you in touch with him as I'm almost certain that he'll share. He's kind like that.

Not to direct anyone from the wonderful Genii magazine but in the July issue of MAGIC magazine there is an effect of mine where a cardbox "changes" into a "cellphone" as part of a card effect. Take care.

Actually, I believe Tim Ellis's cell phone trick is in his other lecture notes, ELLIS IN WONDERLAND, although I can't be sure. Tim responded to another thread on this board, so perhaps he can straighten out the citation.

In his trick, you talk about a psychic friend. Everyone decides on a card (or whatever--a name, a number, whatever), and the friend is called. He/she is able to divine that item immediately.

When I saw Steve Cohen's "Chamber Magic" show in NYC, he did a wonderful cellphone effect. I'm not sure if he is the originator of the effect, or even if it may be one of the ones already mentioned in this thread. It involved calling an audience member's cellphone.

David Groves is quite right. The trick is CELLULAR THINKING and it's in the lecture notes ELLIS IN WONDERLAND. You can get them on line from us at www.MagicUnlimited.com or - we will be at the SAM in Las Vegas and will have some copies of all our products there.

If you just want this trick, it was also published in MAGIC MAGAZINE, October 1995 on page 74. Also in ALADIN & INNOVATOR, April 1997 on page 16.

I'm about to publish a manuscript teaching what i may call the best phone effect ever!
It is called The Wizard Is Dead:you call someone or better yet, someone calls you.
You ask them to draw something on a piece of paper. You then tell them what they drew!
No stooges or pre-show work.

Here's what Banachek had to say about it:

"I love your style of writing. I think it is wonderful and shows a wonderful exercise in the way mentalists produce miracles. Your thinking is superb. The work is brilliant."
