Larry Jennings - Card Cheat?

Postby Brad Jeffers » April 20th, 2017, 3:36 pm

In his article "Should I Learn the Pass", Jim Swain writes ...

"Larry was a larger than life character who'd performed close-up magic at the Magic Castle and also beat the casinos in Nevada using sophisticated sleight of hand. There was nothing Larry hadn't done."

This is the first time I've heard of Jennings cheating in casinos.

Is there more detailed information anywhere concerning this?

Almost 25 years ago I was a guest at the Magic Castle. I was a newborn card man at that point (now I'm a toddler), and the next thing I knew I was being introduced to Larry Jennings. It seemed surreal, but we were sitting at the bar talking and at one point in the conversation, he said: "Show me something." I was surprised that I actually wasn't too nervous at all.

So I reached into my jacket pocket for my pet pocket trick (which I still do to this day). It's called "You must have Been Drinking" or something similar and I don't know who to credit for it. I highly doubt it fooled him, but he said he liked it and had never seen it before. The tag line at the end is, "I know you must have been drinking, ________ (in this case, "Larry"), because you got beer all over my cards" (as you say this, the four treys which had all blue backs, then changed to red backs, all turn into cards with beer logos on the back (Budweiser, Coors, Spuds McKenzie and Bud Light).

I can't believe I actually said that to Jennings, but it brought belly laughs - including from Larry, himself.

I was just reading the same article and thought the very same thing!. It sure would be interesting to see if any fellow forum users could fill us in with some info.
