Harry Lorayne telephone book stunt
I've been seeing Harry Lorayne's name popping up a lot lately, and one thing that comes up is the telephone book memory test which Darwin or Michael Pizzolla told me about years ago and part of the story was that a student of Harry's, a basketball star, could do it too. It seems amazing. Anybody know the details of the effect itself ?

I'm sure the basketball player would have been Jerry Lucas but I do not know the details of the performance.

Re: Harry Lorayne telephone book stunt
From a 1974 newspaper article:
[Lorayne] wrote [The Memory Book] with his No. 1 disciple, Jerry Lucas, a basketball star with the New York Knickerbockers. Lucas credits the Lorayne system with helping him get through Ohio State as a Phi Beta Kappa. Once, as a stunt to impress his friends, Lucas memorized 30,000 names and telephone numbers from the Manhattan telephone book.

Mr Lorayne would dispute that.
