Annemann

Postby Sebastian B » August 8th, 2014, 11:35 am

Hi,

In Jinx 32 (May 1937) Annemann writes that the thought card to pocket was published in England "around 1902" (page: 206). Annemann does not state who originated the routine, does anyone have any information about this?

I have always thought that C.O.Williams was the inventor of this effect. But apparently he came up with it in 1937. I'd be interested to find out the answer to this as well.

Hi All,

It looks to me as though one method explained by Annemann is similar or identical to that of a trick described by Professor Hoffmann in Magical Titbits, which I believe was first published in 1910 (though with the date 1911).

That trick also appeared (with the same wording) in enlarged versions of Hoffmann's book Later Magic. It appeared starting on page 573.

The trick is described under the heading, "To Discover and Pocket (Before Asking Any Question) The Card Thought Of By A Spectator."

Hoffmann states there that C.O. Williams invented it.
