Another History Question: Penn & Teller Truck Stunt

Postby Ray Eden » May 20th, 2014, 6:40 am

I have another ancient history question: does anyone know the shooting date of Penn and Teller Running over Teller with a Truck stunt took place? and, was the show shot live or recorded? The show aired in 1990, but I would need the actual shoot date if anyone has the info.

Thanks,
R.

Looks like the show was called "Penn & Teller: Don't Try This At Home"

Genii (Jan 1991) says the special was "taped live from New York's Radio
City Music Hall". No date of the actual taping was given.

Stan Allen in "Inside Magic" (May 1990) states "PENN & TELLER will be on "Latenight with David Letterman" May 8th. They will be plugging the release of "Penn & Teller Get Killed" to video, which is available the following day. The duo will tape their own primetime special for NBC on September 2nd at Radio City Music Hall in New York City."

Thanks for the reference, Joe. That's what I needed. According to references I have found, the show aired November 23, 1990, so I don't think it aired live, but it was filmed with a live audience. I was at the truck shooting and I'm nearly positive I watched the show I'm TV too. Both wouldn't be possible, but memory may be failing me.

Ray, your memory - in this case - is fine. I worked at Radio City Music Hall and watched the truck bit filmed on a Sunday night, so that jives with 9/2/90. The program aired in November. If it was the 23rd, that was the Friday after Thanksgiving.
