Finished, I hope, tonight. There was a last-minute complication that required some editing but it's now done. David Ben and Julie Eng will be publishing through Magicana. Dates to be announced.

Well crap … not the first time something I have written has had “roid” in its appraisal. Okay: Let’s try this instead:

Coming Soon From the Wilds of Canada! One book! On One trick (But What a Trick)! Hundreds of Pages That Are Being Fine-Tuned to PERFECTION Now! And Before You Know It, That Book Will Be In Your Hot Little Hands!!!

Yes, the book is being fine-tuned to perfection. Actually, the short delay has created a bonus: I worked out a three-phase routine using a new combination of ideas from the book and I've been performing it constantly over the last three weeks.

One of my (non-magic) friends, determined not to be fooled again, insisted on recording the entire performance on her iPhone. She's been watching it over and over and still has no clue--that's because, in each phase of the routine, the spectator does all the shuffling, and in the final phase the spectator shuffles all the cards, deals them and then can switch any cards around or even the hands--and he still loses. Cards are ordinary.

The whole thing looks completely hands off, so a video doesn't help at all.

I'm going to add this to the book.

Coming soon from the wilds of Canada

Are you planning a book launch for such a major project? In general, where are you in Canada? Although it's not a subject of great interest to me, I can't help but feel some national pride. Good luck.

Zeno will walk the manuscript to the printer to prevent never getting there.

As to Canadians: strangely, Canadians have for the most part completely ignored my magical output. Over the years, I may have sold five items in Canada. The comment above--I'm not interested in the book, but it's great that you're a Canadian--is a typical Canadian reaction. Canadians have a history of ignoring Canadians until they become notable elsewhere--then they "proudly" announce, that guy's a Canadian. I'm sure there are people ("Canadians") who think it's great that Rob Ford, the buffoon who is the mayor of Toronto, is now famous in the United States ("He's a Canadian, you know.").

The book launch party is a great idea. So far, this is the band I'm booking:

http://www.rivercityjunction.com/

Mike Close will sit in on keyboards, I'll add sax and guitar.

Admission: you have to buy a copy of the book, even if you are a Canadian.

I didn't say I wasn't interested in the book, it's the subject that doesn't have a lot of appeal for me. Card magic in general I don't care for (the reasons aren't important here) and poker effects specifically don't float my boat.

But I am interested in the book because Canadian magic output is so much smaller than other countries. My own book only sold two copies so I know how disappointing and frustrating it can be to have a large project basically get ignored.

I'm sorry if my post gave the wrong impression.

The idea for the book launch I had was to approach a television morning show which is why I asked where you lived. If close to Toronto that's a lot easier. Maybe get a bunch of performers to do one trick each. I know it' s easy to come up with grand ideas for someone else then expect them to do it. Just a thought because poker has wider appeal with the general public.

My financial situation is quite bleak. But depending on the cost put me down for a copy. Always interested in learning something new. I'll keep an eye out for its release.

All the best.

More 'unknowns' than 'knowns' in my view - I suspect some might even be unknown in their own families.

And did you know Celine Dion once represented Switzerland in (and I think maybe even won) the annual cheesefest that is the Eurovision Song Contest.

Such was her pride in being Canadian that she chose to pretend to be from another country entirely.

And, if it's at all possible, I may be an even bigger Rush fan than Bob.

He's probably still getting over me boring the hell out of him about Rush at the Genii Bash.

When one considers the fact that the entire country has a population that is less than that of the State of California, statistically, this should come as no surprise. And while Canada has Rush (and Bob), we have The Magic Castle. ;)

Perhaps a better way to have phrased it is that I am interested in the book as an example of our magic output. This is not the first time that my comments here have lacked the eloquence that I had intended.

I hope my best wishes for his success though are clear as that was the purpose of making a clarification.

MManchester: I wouldn't worry. This is a thread with Bob Farmer at its center (centre for you all up there, eh?). Sifting through what is serious and what is less than serious is a challenge in itself.

To answer all the emails, phone calls, telegrams and telepathic thought implants:, yes, the book is absolutely, positively coming out this year.
