Ricky Jay was on the Tonight Show May 31, 2014, performing a version of the Ten Card Deal.

If you want to know how he did it, it's in Chapter 2.2 of The Bammo Ten Card Deal Dossier, soon to be published.

Readers should know that Jeff has two contributions in the book, one of which involves beer, a lot of beer.

Hey Bob,

I just noticed that Stewart James applies the Jonah card principle to a spelling game using Alphabet Cards.

Check out ALPHA BETTING on page 705 of STEWART JAMES IN PRINT - THE FIRST FIFTY YEARS. The trick is also in the August, 1956 issue of 'The Linking Ring'.

The Ten Card Poker Deal/Jonah Card

Postby DonB » April 19th, 2014, 1:31 pm

Many magi are talking about Ricky Jay's 10 card poker deal he performed.

In no way am I trying to get folks away from Farmer's book (I will be buying it also), but Jay's routine can be found in Jon Racherbaumer's eBook, "Jonah Ploys", found here:

http://www.lybrary.com/jonah-ploys-p-405089.html?manufacturers_id=96&osCsid=eba56fcbfebea553d27b722423032c95

Both books would be great companions for the entire ruse of Jonah cards, as well as Poker deals.

Bob, will you be including a similar routine in your book or just referencing the above? Thanks.

Yes, the routine is in the book, but in addition there are related effects, variations, etc. The book is arranged so that related material is grouped together and then developments and variations of the idea are set out. One of the advantages of doing a book of this size is that something from a completely unrelated routine suddenly suggests a change or improvement in some other routine. I've done this throughout the book.

In Jon's book "Jonah Ploys", he refers to routines in it as "appetizers" for Bob's book. If this is true, and I suspect that it is, Bob's book will be truly spectacular. My money is literally burning a hole in my pocket awaiting its release!

Hey Bob,

Woody Aragon makes sneaky use of a magnet in order to locate the Jonah card in his Ten Card Deal which was published in his book called 'A Book In English'.

JOE:

All of Woody's work is in the book. As well, I've added a pile of other, related ideas.

I just spoke with Tony Dunn and he's finishing up the illustrations for the book, so I hope to have a tentative publication date soon.

Hi Joe,

I am curious about Woody Aragon's use of a magnet. Is this part of the 'Blessed Poker' chapter?

Thanks,

Sam

To answer Mr. Close's questions:

1. I do have a video of the book. I took it with my iPhone. The book is sitting on a desk and you can see it quite clearly, especially when I turn the lights up.

2. There were some really good tricks in the book but I took them out. They will be in a separate book entitled, "Good Tricks I Deleted From The Other Book." It will sell for $150.

To answer the last queries: yes, all 400 pages can be performed at one show. In fact, David Blaine will be doing this without the benefit of food or water as part of a special show for prisoners at the Mississippi Prison for the Criminally Insane (MPCI). Studies have suggested that exposure to non-stop card tricks for days at a time while incarcerated reduces the recidivist rate to nil.

I just finished editing this monster. It is an extraordinary achievement (not the writing -- the editing).

There is some amazing material in this book.

The most amazing thing is that Mr. Farmer recommends performing all 400 pages worth of material at every opportunity, as he has done himself, and what a reputation he has made for himself, I can tell you.

Great!

How long do you think it will take for me to practice this routine because I have a gig in a few weeks?

Sentence this sense made no Field Matt until edited. You thank Matt me.

To answer the other question (without the Field editing), once you have the book, spend a few minutes each day becoming one with it.

Here at the ashram, Brother Bishwambr of the White Dawn, mastered the entire text in a week.

Of course, he was fasting and chewing on some weird root he'd found in the desert, so he may have been exaggerating when he told me, "Brother Farmer, I am one with it and it with me--here, place the flaming embers of the furnace on my tongue."

There was a lot of screaming after that, so I didn't get a chance to actually check if he could do all the stuff, but when he comes back from the hospital, I'll test him.

I believe the Ten-Card Poker Deal is the new Oil & Water.

Thank you for the encouragement Bob!

I don't have the book yet but I will start practicing right now with 10 cards.
