August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
The Chief Genii requests that all 1500 (!) members of The Genii Forum post a notice when the August issue with Siegfried & Roy on the cover arrives.
(And let us know what you think of the article about, and interview with, S&R.)
The Chief Genii thanks you and thanks your children and their children's children.
And any household pets you may have.

Got mine yesterday - Murphy, TX. Great reading so far. Did S&R happen to mention if the Magic Box would ever be legally released here in the US?

I know that they have seen beta (test) versions of "The Magic Box" for a DVD release, but I don't know when it will come out.

Received today in Atlanta; S&R article is going to require another reading. I love thinking about Racherbaumer experiencing it for the first time. I've never seen them live, either... so I can only imagine.

Joe, as a magician it's very easy to dismiss the show the first time you see it. I wasn't enthralled. The more I've seen it, however, the more interesting it's become. I can't think of anywhere else in the world where someone is doing "The Gypsy Moth" every single night!

The office copy arrived today, .5 miles from Genii offices. Who's that girl in Genii Speaks? Does she work for some company do you think? Thanks on her behalf, we're off to AC to see Johnny Thompson!

I'd take a guess, Mark, but I'd be producing it out of Thin Air.

Richard, I havent received the August Genii yet, and I cant believe David Oliver gets them before me. Its OUTRAGEOUS!!! In the future, I would appreciate it if you would refrain from sending him his copy until I tell you I have received mine.
Thanking you in advance,

TOO DANG HOT Southern Cal checking in. Arrival date 7/15. One complaint: I had difficulty getting it out of the package: I'm thinking that it was Roy's codpiece causing all the trouble. However, the issue looks like a sure winner!

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
Steve, that will be tough because if there's one thing that Rock hates to do, it's walk. He bitches and moans every second step. The Hilton in New York where the SAM was held is exactly one block from the City Center theater where the shows were held. He complained about the walk--and you shouldn't think that he was forced to stand all day, either.
Walking miles every day through Disneyworld for days on end seems ... unlikely. I'd like to get him down there, but who wants to listen to the complaining all day every day?

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
Received mine in San Mateo, CA on July 15. Amazing! It usually arrives a week after the guys in L.A. get their copies.
A few comments:
- Did Eugene Burger have two columns in this issue? If not, Jonny R does a good impression of him.
- Convince Paul Osborne to illustrate his illusions the same way James Hodges does.
- I think Jade should write a column on Bizarre Magick from now on.
- Hey, did you see the ad for that new trick? It's called D'Lite.

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
I can hear Mickey trying to "perk" him up in Mickey's squeeky voice and then Roc strangling the 6' rat. Floridians, I'm an ex after 21 years, refer to Mickey as the rat.I'd like to get him down there, but who wants to listen to the complaining all day every day?
By the way, received my issue here on 7/15.

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
Received mine yesterday, June 15th. In perfect condition. I just want to say that as a recent subscriber to Genii, I have really enjoyed it.
I have been an active hobbyist since I was 9 (i am now 41) I finally subscribed to both Genii and Magic for the first time back in February. I know there is a lot of debate on this forum as to which is better, so far I have enjoyed them both. Since I live in an area without immediate access to magic shops or clubs, getting the magazines in the mail has made me feel much more connected to the larger magic community.
And, I LOVE this forum!!!
Thanks,
Scott Ocheltree

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
I have a bit of advice for those who find it tough to find time to read Genii ...
Every day each of us (hopefully :) ) enters a small room and is alone for a few quiet minutes. Reading a few pages of Genii a day will get you through the entire issue by the end of the month.
I've heard the other magazines don't take as many trips! :p

Arrived here in St. Petersburg, FL today, July 16. Looks great as usual.
Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
Richard,
I hope that YOU are using those few minutes each day to get out some of the great books waiting in the wings! After all, by the time Genii comes out, you've already read it! By the way, how long does it take for your copy to arrive? I know you try to keep up to date on your complete file.
I loved the in depth coverage, particularly the interview, with S&R. Sharp dressers, those guys!
I hope I never have to use the bathroom at Eugene's house.
After reading Bill Goldman's column, it was obvious he was going on no sleep.
Lenier mentions "The Nocturnal Trio", but I wish someone would tell us something in depth already.
David Regal makes a nice debut. I think most of us would like more from him in the way of FEATURE articles, perhaps on the performance of magic, construction of routines, etc.
I enjoyed David Acer's piece on the Vernon effect.
Very entertaining.
Great to see a small piece by Max Maven. If Genii could persuade him to write something along the lines of his old Magic magazine column, it would put Genii over the top!
What's that? Oh, you just asked us to notify you when we get our copy? Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't get mine yet, but, as usual, my local shop did. I read it there.
By the way, congratulations again on your little girl. She is too adorable for words.

Re: August issue in the mail! Time for the monthly heads up.
To David Acer - nah, nah, nah.
To Richard - Concerning your informative comment about the little reading room....
I spoke with Harry Anderson and Mike Caveney about some of the ideas behind the 1982 Genii magazine spoof "Wenii". They said that the first bit of criteria was that every page had to be exactly one good s*** long. I didn't understand right away. Harry explained that in the amount of time most people spend on the "throne" each day, they should be able to completely read, understand and enjoy one full page of Wenii. Any longer or shorter would make for an uncomfortable read. And speaking from personal "little room" experience, Wenii was (and still is) funnier, and a much better read than "Majoke" will ever be (Eugene - FYI - I have both in the book rack in my "little room", next to my copy of "War and Peace").
