Anyone know what date this trick was first marketed or put in print please?

You'll find the details in the book I published, "The Magic of Edward Victor's Hands." Marketted by Ken Brooke in 1952.

Thanks Richard, I had guessed it may be in there. The routine is given in the book "Ken Brooke's Magic: The Unique Years" but no dates are mentioned

Ken was simply working for Harry Stanley in 1952, so it was Harry Stanley's Unique Magic Studio that released it. Ken set up in business again for himself after leaving the employ of Harry Stanley.
