July Genii in the Mail!
Folks, the July issue of Genii is in the mail featuring Tomo Maeda on the cover. A brief interview and six of his routines are presented, four of which are for platform and standup use.
There's an excerpt from the new book Reality With a Twist with tricks from Paul Harris and Pete McCabe, and the article on Alan Warner's collectible magic finally appears.

Whoa, whoa, slow down! I just got the Al Baker book in the mail last week. Can we please put a hold on new issues of Genii until I'm done with it?

Pete -- since the Baker book is causing a backlog, just send it to me. I'll be glad to hold it for you until you are caught up.

Re: July Genii in the Mail!
You know... one of the things I am starting to not like about Genii is the size of it.
All my old issues go into those sleeve page protectors, and then into a binder sorted by year. That way, they are organized, and easily accessable. However, I've noticed that they are starting to get too thick to be placed in the sleeves properly.
Richard, bring back the thin Genii!
Just kidding, keep up the great work!
David.

Re: July Genii in the Mail!
July issue arrived in Indiana today (June 18). Great trick section by Tomo Maeda. Someone could have won a contest with this material. And what a closeup salary. Closest I can think of in the US is Bill Malone.
Re: July Genii in the Mail!
Tomo Maeda came to Richmond, Virginia today, brought Richard Kaufman,Jon Raucherbaumer, Jamie Swiss, et. al. and the Genii Magazine. I particularly liked the trike with the spoon. Thanks Richard......Mike
Re: July Genii in the Mail!
Arrived in Texas today. The Warner article is wonderful. Unfortunately you forgot to mention his website that would have complmented the article really well, with more effects and bigger photos! :(

Re: July Genii in the Mail!
The new Genii was in yesterday's mailbox. Gosh the artwork in the cover story article was exquisite. And I really enjoyed the Swiss essay-review comparing and contrasting Vernon and Marlo. Another great issue.
Re: July Genii in the Mail!
Mine arrived yesterday, Wednesday the 18th, in perfect condition. I'll be reading it today...

My Genii arrived on June 18th. Pleasantly surprised since I'm usually in the middle of the pack who tells you when mine arrives. Looks like an interesting issue.

Got mine yesterday too. Love the article on Alan Warner's creations. Where do you find some of those beauties?! Wow!
Re: July Genii in the Mail!
On a number of recent threads, the word "compliment" has been used (e.g., "this [book] compliments Tarbell 8, etc."); the word used should have been "complement".
"Compliment": "a formal act of expression or courtesy or respect"
"Complement": "that which completes or brings to perfection"
Sorry to sound so picky; I guess old English majors never die, they just flail away in service of correct grammer!

Richard,
Maybe Chaucer was referring to his mother's or fathers' mother? Otherwise it's incorrect grammar to say "grammer"...
Best wishes,

Sweet! I'm getting married tomorrow and I'll be lounging around for a week on my honeymoon and I could use some good reading.

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't have much time for reading on my honeymoon. I was too busy practicing riffle stacking.

Yeah, I did a lot of "Riffle Stacking" on my honeymoon, too. Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more.Originally posted by Randy DiMarco:

Re: July Genii in the Mail!
Raj, the illustrations are from a very large book of Japanese paintings, prints, and illustrations which are novel in some way. Some have the figures posing to produce shadows, others show heads made up of many smaller people, there are changing pictures, pictures that smile or frown depending upon the orientation, anamorphic drawings, etc.
I purchased it on a trip to Japan after another magician who accompanied me to the bookstore pointed it out.

Hooray! The July issue arrived (via airmail) on Saturday, just two days after the May issue (the last of my surface mail subscription issues). So I have lots of interesting stuff to read before next month.

Adrian, I have no idea what the font is--it was my wife's choice (she's the boss in that area).
Bob, your subscription will most likely start with the August issue.
