There is no reason to do the Palm Change quickly. I should make a video.

Re: Video of Roth's Standup Copper/Silver Classic?
Correct: you do the stand up version for standing spectators, and the seated version for seated spectators.
I was able to read a copy of the Fred Kaps technique for the Palm Change and it is, indeed, what I reinvented and what is published in CoinMagic.

Re: Method as Accoutrement - A Minor Rant
"Method" is never irrelevant for the simple reason that each of us is different. Method A might work better for Magician A than Magician B. This is often confused with the argument that "method is irrelevant" because the only thing that matters is the effect. These are two entire...

Re: Video of Roth's Standup Copper/Silver Classic?
I have not read the Kaps Purse book, but depending upon the author the description might not be accurate. I only know that I was told that the technique I developed (because the Roth technique was impossible for me) was essentially the same as what Kaps did.

Re: Video of Roth's Standup Copper/Silver Classic?
The Palm Change was originally done with dice. It's an old gambler's switch. The first to do it with coins was Earl Presto Johnson. Roth's technique is far more difficult and requires a long second finger. There's no reason to do it that way. If you look in CoinMagic (my book) you'll see the techniq...

Re: Nate Bargatze hosting SNL on October 28
The normal guy does both Trump and Biden, and that presents a problem considering the situation of the potential candidates in the general election--you can't have one guy playing both roles. So they are going to be trying out various folks to do Biden and eventually settle on one. This guy was not ...

Before Vernon, Daley, and Horowitz, methodology was more brute force: Multiple Top Changes, Passes, Palms. There was a huge difference before and after those three guys in New York (and Arthur Finley).

I never thought I'd read the second sentence of the first paragraph on page 21 in a magic magazine. He's entitled to his opinion, but of course it's nonsense. Derek Dingle thought it was one of the greatest tricks invented, and did it regularly. Now there's an opinion I'll accept. The construction ...

I used to go to a bar in NY in the early 1980s with a friend of mine who was blond and looked like Daryl Hall. Quite a few people glanced at us wondering if we were Hall and Oates.

Re: Bob Read Book?
The new book will be the book that was supposed to have been published in the first place. I rescued it from the hard drive on Bob Read's computer right after he died. After the fiasco with Volker Huber, I guided it to Bill Kalush at Conjuring Arts in the hope that it would eventually be published a...

Re: Bob Read Book?
There is a new version of Bob Read's Cup and Ball book being prepared by Conjuring Arts Research Center. This will be the REAL book, with the 200,000 words that Bob wrote which were not included in the earlier version published by Volker Huber.
There are no other Bob Read books in preparation.

Re: Max's Birds of Prey Series
Max did not plan any posthumous releases. He worked on some final projects during the last year and a half of his life, but they were mostly short. The one thing that did reach completion was the chapter on Mentalism he wrote for the new edition of Greater Magic. After his first brain surgery, he ha...

Re: Copyright
I think, assuming the work is not "a work for hire," that copyright ends 75 or 95 years after the death of the author. However, in this case, most of the books published by Max Holden's never had their copyright renewed after 26 years (as used to be the law). Thus anything published by Hol...

"Critical Flop" is not the phrase I would use when a show is getting three our of four (or five) stars. "Critical flop" is one or two stars. None of the reviews you cite have given the show that low of a rating. "Fair to middling" is the expression I would use, and a mo...
