Re: Conjuring Arts Book Club

"This falls into the same category as the common belief that it's "OK" for a teacher to read books out loud to their students, which of course - from a legal standpoint - it's not. Reading books out loud makes a single book available to multiple parties at the same time - which (I bel...

With all due respect to all parties: is it a beautiful steel cardbox or a beautiful steel cardboard box?

Re: Return of a Controversial Blog

to Jack Shalom: My understanding is that Mr. Deutsch's Perverse Magic is magic that happens by itself against the will of the magician. The magician is an ordinary person caught up in the moment with everyone else. He is equal to and not better than members of his audience. It's like a sucker trick ...

Re: Return of a Controversial Blog

"Andy's language is vulgar and not to everyone's taste and while it would be fair to criticize that I think if thats the only thing someone has to say then they don't really add to the conversation. We understand the language is vulgar, we can move past that now." I agree with filtering ou...

Re: Return of a Controversial Blog

"A new genre of magic" is over stating Andy's contributions. A sub category of Bizarre Magic sounds right. For example "The Greatest Trick You Should Never Do" is just The Bill in a Lemon trick presented in a way that Jarrow and others would have never thought of or considered pe...

Re: Return of a Controversial Blog

I have read all posts on The Jerx. I have found the blog entertaining. I do appreciate the amount of thinking and effort that went into some presentations. While interesting, most of them do not fit my style. I have not purchased the book as I do not find the information to be as revolutionary as so...

Re: Books for Sale: Theatrical Close-Up, Our Magic, more

The profile for the username: magicapplestore does not have contact information. But in looking at magicapplestore's posts it is easy to track down a telephone number, location address, website, etc. I appreciate the Genii Forum rules concerning the sale of items. It provides some protection to me a...

Re: Stealing other people's effects...

I am accused of having Darwinisms, but no, i don't mimic his tone or voice patterns, but i do employ his theoretical techniques, such as increasing tempo as the climax is approaching, etc. If I am correctly understanding you, when singing "What a Wonderful Life" you would use solid perfor...

Stealing other people's effects...

I personally do steal other people's effects. It's the same way as a musician performing a cover of a song. In magic, what is the point of publishing an effect if you don't want someone to use it as is? If you were singing "What a Wonderful World" would you use your own voice or try to so...

Re: Some Problems Across Our Websites

I have just double checked Dr. Sawa's rope routine videos, and all play with no problem on my PC desktop. Do you have a pop-up blocker on? I am still unable to view the videos on my iPad but could watch them on my PC. I will try and clear up my systems/YouTube issues. I do not have pop-up blockers ...

Re: Some Problems Across Our Websites

Yesterday I could not access the magazine or back issues on my iPad, but I could from my desktop. Today I can access the current edition and prior issues on both devices. I was hoping to view Dr. Sawa's Miracle Rope Routine (Feb. 2014) which is recommended in that month's More Genii Speaks, but I'd ...

I've brought this to the attention of the companies who handle the digital end of things. I was just able to launch the app. It did not ask me to login, and the new issue opened with no problem. Please try it again tomorrow. I assume you are both using iPads? Yes, I am using an iPad. Thank you. Jac...

Re: iPad App

I also generally access Genii using the iPad app. I just attempted to view Genii using the app. The app requested my username email and password before opening. Before it has always opened with the most current issue being displayed. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. I was unable to access Genii...

Re: Karrell Fox on The Magic Palace

Very enjoyable to watch a master.

Since MCs need to keep the show moving and prevent dead spots when there are problems, your anecdote reinforces the old saw "Acts are hired for what they do while MCs are hired for what they know." It's a good think Karrell Fox had extensive knowledge.

Gaffed Coin Question

In my trip to the bank today I received 3 Eisenhower coins. One of the coins has two tail sides. The coin is ever so slightly thicker than regular Ikes, under magnification a seam can be seen on one side, and the milling around the edge of the non-seamed side is slightly ground down. The eagle on th...

I took a coin and visited a local thrift store. Used the coin to test glasses to get the proper size and action when pouring the coin out.
