Re: Sting

I tested the Walkinoats "you're not doing it right" theory by showing a video if Harry Lorayne doing the effect to a non-magician. He said "he didn't show the last two pairs" with no prompting from me. He admitted that he probably wouldn't have said anything if it was live, but h...

Harry Lorayne's "Sting" (actually the Walt Madison trick with normal cards) is a great trick. The one weak spot in the routine is the penultimate display of the piles. You show R-B, R-B, R-B, X-X and X-X (ie, hide the last state of two pairs). The fairness of the first three makes the lack...

Re: Cups and Balls Thought

I have two versions of a final liquid load that I have used successfully. Neither requires a cup switch. Version 1. I have a double shot glass filled with alcohol. The mouth of the glass is covered with a very shallow cap, which has a strong magnet in it. If the glass were to be knocked over in my p...

Re: Chain Gang VS. Fast & Loose

I love the Scoundrels' book. I can't recommend it highly enough. However, I haven't seen the Chain Gang video. Anton says, and this point has been mentioned earlier, that his book/video is on the effect as a con game, while DeSouza's video is as a presentation piece. Ask yourself how YOU want to pre...

In the Hands False Shuffles

OK, I'm thinking of buying the Heinstein Shuffle tape. But, is it really that much beyond what you'd find in say Card College Vol 1?? I perform a great (but incredibly unconvincing) in the hands false shuffle. I just cut the deck and then riffle the cards in my left hand followed by a riffle of the ...

Re: Best Okito Box and Routine...Your opinion?

Sam Schwartz's Incredibox!! My God, I remember that one. In fact, I still have it. I used to use it all the time, but when the slot box came along, it was retired. I eventually got a Jim Zachary slot box, and I've just gotten used to it. If you think that lid on the Z box is big, look at the Incredi...

Re: Gambler vs Magician

Peter, your comment on selling the effect is absolutely vital. The gambler v magician effect is otherwise quite a boring effect from an unattached viewer's perspective. The storyline creates a world in the audience's imagination, and creates the effect. The poker deal, on the other hand, tends to cr...

I'm trying to find out more about this magician. Does anyone have any info? Someone told me it was a pseudonym.

Gambler vs Magician

I love Lorayne's Gambler vs Magicain, where the gambler produces four of a kind and then the magician produces four of a kind (from his pockets), and then reveals the four Aces. Now I know someone out there is going to say that the handling really belongs to Xxxx and that Lorayne ripped it off...

Re: Packet Tricks

Enough people have mentioned it, so let me set the record straight. "Wild Card" is NOT a Frank Garcia effect. The effect was created by Peter Kane. It was marketted as "Gypsy Curse" by Emerson and West, but now Peter markets it as the "Hungarian Guessing Game". Bye for ...

Poker Deals

The Jonah Card and the Faro Flush (see below) are great poker deals. However, I am sure there are many more out there. For example, I remember hearing good things about Steve Mayhew's "Angels May Shuffle But the Devil Still Deals", but have never seen it performed. So, can others give thei...

Wanted: Fulves Publications

I am trying to get hold of two booklets by Karl Fulves: "Swindle & Cheat: A Collection of Nontransitive Games" (1991) "Mathematical Dice Tricks" (?) [manuscript from the 60s] If anyone is willing to lend them to me, I would return them paying any and all postage. Bye for now ...

Hi, Curtis! The Bob Read routine sounds great. Another "get to the big loads ASAP" routine is Barry Nelson's Flash Cups in John Mendoza's "Book of John", which uses 3 cups.

Wanted: BlackJacked

I am looking for the instructions for this Don Alan effect. It was originally marketted by Ben Martin's Studio in Chicago.

The effect consists of a Blackjack stack (I know the stack) where the dealer loses at most two hands.

Re: A Diabolical Apparatus, But No Good Routine in 50 Years

I have a routine that I have been using for about 5 years. It's based on a Barry Govan routine which used two different colored dice and a cup ("Las Vegas Dice", Apocalypse, May 1982). The problem with most chop cup routines is that they are all based on the "Is it in my pocket or und...
