Re: What Magic Item did You Get for the Holidays?

December was a good month and these were under the Christmas tree - from myself :-) The Vernon Companion McCombical (a good book - however it really made me sad to learn that a much larger compilation + biography was abandoned due to the publication of this book) Alan Shaxon - The Sophisticated Sorc...

Re: I Join Those Banned from The Magic Cafe

Pressly Guitar holds the patent on "Copper Silver Brass" as issued in 1972. I think he only allowed Johnson Products to manufacture it. The Pressly Guitar patent expired in 1991 (17 years after it was issued). So at least after patent law the "Copper Silver Brass" could be freel...

Re: ERDNASE

The letter pairing idea offers intriguing possibilities. Is there any reference to nuclein in the erdnease text? In this case, since Johann Friedrich Miescher's discovery of 1871 was not so well known, I'm less than convinced that DNA and base pairing is a decryption key. One may as well consider t...

Re: Tenkai "Coin in the hand gag"

It is described in "Malini and his Magic" by Vernon: The Coin Game on page 35.

Also, Ken Brooke has quite a nice anecdote about the trick and book in Ken Brooke's Magic - The Unique Years

Re: Derek Dingle, John Scarne

I can't lay my hands on it, but Derek never used a LePaul wallet when I spent time with him, so the card never came out of an envelope. I don't want to say more, because I'm going to write this up and make a free little booklet that will go into the goodie bag for attendees of the Genii convention....

Re: The Legends weren't flawless...

If we were to view "Card Warp" as though it is problematic, what then are the problems? Is the idea that half the card can be reversed unconvincing? Does the handling fail in some way? Does the ending fail in some way? Let's take it apart! I'll start by saying that bringing out two cards ...

I bought Roy Waltons Card Ward from Davenport in London many years ago and never really got around to use it. Re: Triumph

There's part of the Vernon handling where you take the top half of the deck and invert it on the bottom half. On some level that must register with the audience - that the cards are so mixed up that it would not matter which way you put the cards down. So... In the process of illustrating to the sp...

Re: Origin of Multiplying Bottles?
